Parque da Liberdade (Liberdade Park) is public park located upon the slope just south of Volta do Cuche in the Historic Centre of Sintra. There are convenient entrances along Volta do Duche as well as another next to Palácio Valenças.

You'll find paved walking paths and nicely landscaped grounds within Parque Liberdade. There are a few monument busts, shaded paths through light forest as well as a little duck pond area near the Volta do Duche entrance. Tennis court and sports grounds further up the slopes and near to R. Visc. de Monserrate as well.

Overall, there will be much opportunity to spend time in palace park grounds during your stay so city park like Liberdade might be redundant for short visits to Sintra. But it is a nice little place for green space very near the city centre if needed.

This large public park, created in 1936, is one of the sights that you pass if you are walking from the train station into the old town along the Volta do Duche. It’s not a must-see but if you want to avoid walking along the road, then you can cut down through the park. Entry is free. Look out for a staircase on your right just after the Town Hall which will take you down into the park .
Although we only used it as a shortcut, the park is quite large and has clear paths through lush growth, a pond and fountain, a duck-house and a playground.

Rather than take a bus etc. or walk up the road to the Moorish Castle from the station with the crowds, we decided to wander through this pleasant park and other paths. It made the climb on a hot day a lot more pleasant than otherwise would have been the case.

This is an amazing park and is well worth a visit when in Sintra - absolutely stunning in every way. Good walking shoes recommended and allow at least a couple of hours to soak up all the beauty.

This pretty park starts close to the railway station and its a nice walk through to the centre of town if you want to avoid walking beside the road

Wondering about the Liberdade Park we climbed up and came out unto the Calzada de Santa Maria and then followed the signs towards the Quinta de Santa Maria. Don't miss straying from the Calzada into the little sideway paths up or down the hillside, even if it means walking back, there are breathtaking landscape views, steep stone stairs, courtyards, ancient houses to discover, so be sure to take your video or picture camera!!

Only a few tourists seem to get to this park which makes it a good place in which to escape for a while. We used it as a shortcut from the train station on our way to the castle.

Our first morning in this exquisite town we walked around the lovely sylvan space. Amongst a wide variety of flora and along winding trails, it was delightful in the early sunlight.

Some fountains and ponds add pleasant water features. Portuguese and Japanese associations are shown in a grand model.

What a lovely place to escape the maddening crowds and get close to nature. It is well laid out and has a great variety of plants, trees and flowers. Very tranquil place.
