Sintra has many attractions to view.
This was my second visit to Sintra. Last visit was 5 years ago. We rented an apartment for 3 nights . The apartment was located very near the train station which was convenient to arriving by train from Lisbon. Our friends had not been to Sintra before so we took all the sights in. Great restaurants in the village. Only concern is the amount of traffic and tourist in the area.

    Dates back to 1887
The Sintra Station dates back to 1887 and is decorated with azulejos tile work. Its quite a cute looking building. It is a 1.5 km walk to the centre of Sintra town. There are buses or taxis from the station. This station connects to Rossio Station, Oriente, Entrecampos, Sete Rios and Campolide.

    Lovely clean station
This pretty building that is Sintra railway station was built nearly 150 years ago and is the place to get your onward travel to see the sights in this area. There are regular trains from various Lisbon stations and are clean and good value. Expect them to be busy and queues to get through the barrier on the exit from the station. Cafes across the road serve good coffee and there are plenty of opportunity to buy tickets for tours.

    Convenient and Cheap
We took the train from central station in Lisbon and efficiently arrived in Sintra. It’s a quick 15 minute walk to the historical center of town. There were two trains to choosing from on the return - you want the one marked Rosseau. We weren’t sure if the ticket we purchased at the Lisbon station included return, so we just went through the turnstile no problem.

Small, but beautiful train station in the heart of Sintra. Quick and easy access from Lisbon. It is the railway gate to Sintra and it touristic attractions. This pretty station, located on Avenida Dr. Miguel Bombarda, is a 1.5 km walk to the center of Sintra town . Sintra Station in Sintra dates from 1887 and is a lovely station decorated with azulejos tile work on its walls. One of the most beautiful train stations I've ever seen.

The main train station in Sintra and the last stop on the train line. Right in the heart of Sintra there are a few restaurants around and within walking distance or the city center. Gets busy with everyone coming from Lisbon on day trips!

We arrived to buy a ticket to travel to Lisbon on a Saturday.
The ticket machine only accepted coins.
There was no staff at the train station, on a Saturday the kiosk opens at 2.30pm, so before that time there was no way to board a train that had arrived in the station as there was no way of buying a ticket unless you could get hold of coins.
Not very good for one of Portugals busiest tourist places.

The service at the train station is one of the worst in the world. After waiting 20 minutes for one payment machine it only accepts coins. The service at the cash register is very bad, there is one official who does not care about the service. Bad and unprofessional experience An old and noisy train, it is better to take a taxi next time

Small station (there are 4 platforms but apparently only 3 are used), terminus for trains coming from Lisbon. The low building from the end of the 19th century is pleasant, externally decorated through the alternating use of groups of brick bricks and with squares of polychrome majolica; the walls of the small internal room, where the ticket office and a tourist desk are located, present artistic compositions of azulejos. Overall clean and efficient, however it does not present any further services, due to the limited dimensions which only today may appear inadequate for the abnormal influx of tourists, which was certainly not foreseeable at the end of the nineteenth century. Outside the station there are bars, the terminus of tourist buses 434 and 435, as well as the 403 to Cascais, and of course taxis and tuc-tucs.

If you're taking the train from Lisbon to Sintra, you'll depart at the Sintra Railway Station, so it's not really a "you should--or shouldn't--visit this attraction" kind of deal as much as it's a "you'll do this if you come via train."

Still, it was a small, pleasant little station. Easy to navigate. Easy to go from Lisbon to Sintra (and back) via train.
