Hotels seem to have have quite a lot of information related to sightseeing around Sintra. However, if the need arises, there is a fairly typical Tourist Office at Praca da Republica in the Historic Centre of town. Opening hours are 10am to 6.30pm. They have maps, brochures and can provide basic information (opening hours, prices) about the area palaces, gardens, bus tours and other sightseeing opportunities in the area.
Note that there is a small TI office inside the rail station as well. Opening hours there are 9am to 1pm and then 2-5.30pm daily. This is a more convenient location if arriving on a day trip from Lisbon and needing a bit of guidance.
If you wish to arrive in Sintra already prepared, you can simply spend time on the Sintra Tourism Office website and research your visit ahead of time. There is pretty good information to be found there along with studying a bit on the Parques of Sintra website.

Sintra is an all day experience. Pena castle has long lines but is a must do, the other castles do not have the same lines and are worth a look see. The bus that covers the loop that the various castles are on is a must. Sintra is pretty unique and well worth a day if you have the time.

Very helpful, detailed information about the numerous historical, architectural, cultural and natural sites to see and visit in and around Sintra, provided by an extremely kind, patient and professionally knowledgeable staff. Also, noticed the presence of extra-ordinary craft production with regard to the standard souvenirs found everywhere else.

We went in because we are obviously tourist and wanted to know what to do. The person at the tourist desk said take the hop on off bus you can pay here. We pay and he points down the street. Go back and ask where. Again he points down the street and rudely said at the corner. We go in a third time, he explains it better. We get on the bus and it’s totally packed. The traffic is horrible. By the time we get to the first castle it’s been over 30 min. We get off and blow off the rest and walk back. We are 5 min away! Just take a little moped up and walk back. What a waste of time and money!

Popped in to buy post cards and get directions. Super friendly, and helpful. Used the ATM - in and out no fuss.

During my visit to beautiful Sintra, I went into the tourist office to get some advice about visiting the numerous beautiful tourist attractions. Unfortunately the service here fails to match the splendour of the environment. The assistant lacked interest and gave one word replies to my simple and straight forward questions. Tourist information centres are often the first port of call for visitors to the area, and creating a good impression is important. I left the Sintra tourist information office feeling unwelcome and without any useful information. Extremely poor service.

I've been there at the end of January, it was a Sunday so I guess a lot of tourist around. I don't understand at all why people that works with tourism is impolite with tourists. I work with hundreds of tourists every day and I'm always smiling and kind to them even when i'm tired or not happy. I went to the tourism office and there was a girl bothered by the fact somebody ( else ) was entering and going to ask the same things of others, sorry but it's your job and there are jobs much worst than that! I told her I had only one day to stay in Sintra and what she suggests me to visit; she took a map and showed me the places on the map without adding any information; from the way she spoke I thought i could reach everything walking she didn't think to mention that they were very very far one form each other so I had to ask and she answer about a bus; not further information and no sign of politeness, never. I've been in a loooot of touristic information point much more busy than this one and it is the first time I have a negative experience. I hope they will improve the client attention otherwise they can close and we find infos directly in internet.

If you are a bit lost and need some maps or suggestions of where to go, this would be a good first stop on your visit. They have a lot of information here and it is located in the center near the train station.

5 stars for Nuno at theTI location in Sintra close to Palacio National
5 stars for allowing luggage to be held for a small fee
5 stars for the patience these employees have with the many visiting tourists
My husband and I had the opportunity to interact with employee Nuno several times:
luggage, train routes, bus routes, palaces, local eats.............We had many enjoyable experiences because he shared the ins and outs of Sintra with us.
Brigadão — (A big) thank you.
