Very atmospheric place. The first thing that impresses is the architecture of the park, the beautiful view areas, the stunning view of the green slope from the terrace of the palace.
Of course, in hot weather it is hard to walk on very steep cobbled paths.
But there is a solution - wait for a minibus (for an extra fee).
The palace itself is small and it's hard to take a moment to photograph the beautiful lacework of the main gallery.
The rooms show examples of furniture and interestingly, explanations and photos are given of how it was when the owners lived there.
Finally, the place is less popular than Pena Palace, although there are plenty of people, a pleasant walk through the huge park.
People with mobility problems will find it a bit difficult.
There is a cafe within the park.
There is a car park at the entrance to the park, it's free, just make sure you have a space.

Easy day trip from LIsbon, train from Rossio to Sintra (last stop), 45 minutes. Outside the trainstation is the 435 bus, which does a route of the attractions (different bus than Pena Palace). Some of the routes down to the palace are steep, on entrance the shortest route is marked to the left but this is wrong, it is best to go to the right and then follow the signs. The park and palace (which is small but very beautiful) are well worth a visit and more impressive than the Pena Palace. Bring a picnic and have it here if the weather is good. Extremely quiet - no crowds.
There is a small coffee shop for drinks and ice cream.

We walked from Sintra town up to Parque de Montserrate passing through the lovely narrow roads, about 1 hour or so. This palace and gardens is not so popular as the other palaces around Sintra but very well worth the visit. Marvellous grounds and an unusual palace full of history.

Parque de Monserrate was by far my favourite location in Sintra. We chose to go there by foot (a 5 km walk from the historical center in Sintra) and it was totally worth it. We enjoyed the nature around us and the serenity it offered. The Parque has luxurious gardens and the palace withing is just stunning.

A visit to Monserrate Palace in Sintra is definitely worth it. This gem is a beautiful example of moorish revival architecture. It is an exquisite villa that most recently belonged to the Cooke family and is stunning but small enough to explore in an hour.

Stunning palace with amazing gardens. The architecture is unique and mesmerizing. Very well worth the visit. There is less crowd compared to other Sintra attractions like Pena palace and Quinta de Regaleira.

This palace was definitely one of my favourite sites in Sintra.
I’m so thankful it was decided to renovate and restore this beautiful building, and it’s grounds, to its former glory.
The palace is exquisite, as are the gardens. I purposely arrived early so as to enjoy the palace before it started getting busier.
There’s a lovely little café on site which sells a great selection of cakes.
I would highly recommend visiting the Palace of Monserrate, and I would definitely come back here again.

We visited this palace on September 22. Free parking is available on the other side of the entrance. After paying the entrance fee you have to walk to the palace. On the map you see two routes: the blue one is the easiest and the red one is more challenging.
The rooms in this palace are not fully furnished. The architecture is what sets this palace apart from the others in Sintra. A film is shown on the second floor about the last inhabitant of this place.

This is an amazing restored garden right form the late 1800's. Make sure you check out the tree ferns as well as the Mexico Gardens. This is a truly magical space. It is also not on the SIntra circuit so it is not a busy as all of the other places. Parking was available when we went.

Visitors visiting most popular Penn Palace must include this Park and Palace nearby. Palace was built by English Merchant Gerard Visme in 1790 on the ruins of old chappel built in 1540. Later owned by British Art collector Francis Cook. Lord Byron visited in 1809 and praises it in one of his poems. Palace architecture is in Gothic style with Octagonal Hall, Main Hall Dome Stucco Clad wood,Moghul style panels, Indian furniture, pink columns and carrara marble fountain etc. Lots in one place.
Not to be missed is sprawling romantic garden outside the palace notable for size and cambered surface . Rose Garden, Mexican Garden,Japanese and chinese gardens are new additions.Ornamental Lakes with exotic aquatic plants.
Palace and Park have been gifted by family of Sir Francis Cook to Portuguese Government.

Do you check your backpack at the entrance?

What is the best way to get to Parque de Monserrate. I see that it is about two and a half miles from Sintra. I will be there in August and it may be too hot to walk.
Thanks.
