We visited briefly early evening in the hope of seeing flamingos. The tide was out so flamingos were only just visible on the horizon however there were plenty of smaller birds to look at. A pair of binoculars or a telescope for visitors would have been helpful. Having said that this is a gorgeous peaceful spot for an early evening drink. A large stylish terrace with comfortable seating and chilled wine and beer available. Parking is easy and interesting metal bird sculptures to admire to compensate for not seeing real ones. Serious bird watchers probably have good advice on the best times to see birds.

The only way to see birds is to take a boat tour; Best time of year is Nov-Feb, but out late Aug tour was still worth it. Boat tours leave from dock next to tide mill. Make reservations, and tours are at high tide.

Not far from Alcochete, a good base for the Evoa and Salinas do Samouco refuges, this looked promising. I went on a Monday. The restaurant was closed. The tide was out. I would love to post lots of photos showing flocks of wading birds but I saw next to nothing. Maybe I was unlucky . . .

Highly recommend if you are visiting the city, specially in the summer. Try to find a tour operator and you will love the view of the bay and all the variety that Sado River as to offer you.

Merci

Can we buy tickets in Setúbal for just a 3hr trip around the Sado estuary, not a full day. How much will this be? Where is the ticket office? We want to start at Setúbal where do we go?
Thank you,
Diane Stevens

Good day, there are several options to make this visit.
For me the best option is the "DOLPHIN WATCHING" from "Vertigem Azul".
Season: All year
Duration: 3 hours;
Schedule: 9h30m / 14h30m (departing from Setúbal);
Prices: 35Eur/adult – 20 Eur/children under 12 – VAT included;
To get in Setubal also visit the "Arrabida Natural Park" and the "Livramento Market".
