This place is amazing, whether you're shopping or not. The array of freshest fish, produce, nuts etc is phenomenal! We did take time to enjoy raw oysters, opened for us, and served with passion fruit, an option we never knew existed.

Interesting, large food market mainly fish, fruit and veg and one or two bread and cake stands. We witnessed an enormous Tuna being cut up (we bought some!) and an entire swordfish.
Well presented, pretty, tiled walls. Most stalls only take cash.

Big bustling market with a lot of activites. Many different seafood options to buy plus fruits and sweets. We just walked around and took it all in. A really neat place. Some vendors took cards but mostly cash

For me, this market rates as # 1
I have been and continue to go to many many markets all over the globe, mainly in Europe and North America, but there’s something very very special about this particular one. Here you have a clean, fresh and an amazing assortment of everything you would need to make anything you desire, fish being predominantly why you’re there but they have every type of meat, veggies, breads, cheeses, whines, deserts, you name it, it’s here. Do not go to Setúbal and miss the opportunity to visit the best of the best 😍

Never seen so much colour & variety of fruit, vegetables & fish in a market! Although fish prices per kilo not cheap for Portugal.
Had the cheapest coffee in all Setubal!

We love this place! Amazing, fresh, affordable, healthy, foods. Multiple vendors. Rows and rows! Also offers jellies, jams, cheeses, chorizo, chicken, other meats, shellfish, in addition to fresh fish, octopus - pretty much anything you can think of - in addition to fresh fruits and veggies! Street parking is free. Recommendation: go early for the best selection!

Always interesting to visit a market-hall: tge market- “ place” as a symbolic mirror of the socio- economic situation of the town- population/ of tge economic development of a town and how much importance a municipal council pays to the development of “traders.
The offer of local products( fish and meat and other foodstuffs): with delight I went on a Sunday morning through the market hall— talking to people and enjoying the market-atmosphere. A pity that there was only a modest place for having a coffee/ a drink or a small bite.
It is a place in the town center to be visited- mirroring quite well the dynamism of this town— and the apparent interest of the town- developers in improving the living standards and the infrastructure in the formerly prestigious town center.

This market is an education in itself just for the variety of fish on sale - everything from salmon, dorado to swordfish and such a large assortment of different shell fish that we had not seen before.
There is also a large selection of local produce, fruit, vegetables, cheeses and cakes.
Well worth a visit. Go before 2 pm as it closes then.

Very cool experience!! You find not just fish but fresh fruit and vegetables that makes you want to buy and eat everything. When you come in the smell of fish is anything but overpowering. It's very very clean. The sellers are shy and not showy but friendly and open. The fish on the stands can be very surprisingly, well...large!! Definitely worth coming.

Don't bother getting your fish, meat, fruit and veg from supermarkets! Come to the mercado! Best row is the furthest on the right from the main entrance. That's where the small local producers are. All grown in their gardens. Figs are excellent - don't pay €7.80 from the once from Algarve(sold in one of the central aisles). Buy local black or green ones - they are sweet and ripe and cost €1.80 a kilo! Quinta do Anjo fresh cheese is not to miss!
