If you would like a tranquil place where you can sit and think of lost love ones, this is ideal, there are grandeur places which you can admire the wonder of these splendid churches but if want character and the feeling of belonging, and just to chill out, you will not be disappointed.

A perfect example of the Portuguese building art, called "Manuelino Style"... Beautiful Monastery, with the background now re-built and able to receive visits. Unfortunately nobody's allowed to pray in the monastery church any longer... Worth a visit, obviously...

Amazed by this Manueline church full of Azulejos and twisted columns. Site where was authenticated the Treaty of Tordesillas 1494. We were given information about history and symbolism of the Church by very helpful assistant.

Last saturday I've visit the monastery with some friends and I wasn't impressed.
The monastery is located near Setubal city center...and the building is so badly done they transformed the front in a skaters playground without any plants or flowers . Inside stil same disaster...simple and really boring. Having said that do I recommend spend time visit this building...? Absolutely not.

Take the lift from the main street to access the remains of the convent which is worth a quick visit. There are exhibitions housed at the rear, which are interesting.

Setubal is usually known for its seafood and charming fishing marinas - however there are also some imposing historical monuments. The Convento de Jesus is definitely worth a visit. Its spiral pillars are quite unique and the baptism area with a side for girls and the other for boys is something I had never seen before!

I had the privilege to attend a concert as part of Setubal Music Festival in May 2016 it blew me away and the person sitting next to me was in tears it was so moving. Take time on your visit to go inside the columns are like nothing you've ever seen before and are carved from stone mined locally which no longer is available.

The convent itself is not accessible to visitors, but you have good views from various perspective through windows and doors. The attached church was not open during our visit in May, 2016, but should open in a couple of weeks. The small museum of painting and artifacts upstairs is a wonderful little treat and makes the visit worthwhile. Two pieces in particular grabbed my attention. One was a gold crucifix with crystal (I believe from Vienna) extensions and it's original box. This mixed media piece was an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship. The second was a small sculptural placard with carved ivory figures looking up at descending bird icon. Again, the craftsmanship was simple but exquisite. Good for a nice short visit and to get out of the rain.

You will find this Church in the city centre on the “Praça Miguel Bombarda”, the Convent and the Church are representing the historical Portuguese architecture and this was the beginning of the Manuelito style, they started the building of this monument in 1940 and was ended in 1496.
The Museum entrance in before you arrive at the entrance of the church on your left side. This location should be a part of your visit.

Unusual building, from the same architect of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. Nice religious architecture, nice azulejos, archs, altarpiece. Worth visiting
