Really easy castle walk! Great views!
Oct 2019
Really easy castle to walk. Lots of open space for large groups. The inclines aren't that steep, so it's good for kids and stroller/wheelchair access. Not as slippery and narrow as other castles. Has a rather fancy hotel/restaurant attached. Ample parking. Free activity.

Fantastic location wonderful staff

We were staying here on a scheduled stopping point on a walking holiday with 'Inntravel'. Fantastic room with beautiful views and everything we would want for the 2 night stay. My wife broke her wrist on the last day of a local walk and we managed to get back to the hotel and Frederika the receptionist was a 6star host - she arranged for a taxi to a hospital and briefed the taxi firm to expect a call for a return jouney. She phoned our room to check how we were and fusssed over us the next day before we left for Lisbon.
Food was excellent, breakfast was generous and for the one meal included in our package, dinner was lovely. We had intended having mor of a look around the grounds but were unable to on this visit. We would love to come back one day.

Palmela is a charm. Well preserved castle, beautiful landscapes, lots of history. On sunny days we can see Sado and Tejo, Setúbal and Lisbon

Romantic and Stunning Marriage Photo Session
Sep 2018
Very nice and preserved old castle. We had our marriage photo session here and we have a lot of stunning and beautiful photos. Very romantic place to walk and enjoy the views. Near parking by or if you enjoy to walk you can also go around and find the more about this beautiful village: Palmela.

Be prepared to climb some steps, but the views at the end of it are superb. Still quite well preserved.

Enjoyable visit

We walked up the hill to the castle to find there would have been adequate parking nearer the castle. The castle itself is really lovely to walk around and has a superb position for breathtaking views all around for miles. We were amazed the a visit to this castle was free as it was one of the highlights of our recent holiday.

Stunning views, worth a short visit

My wife and I love castles; whenever we drive around Europe we stop at most any one of them that looks interesting. While this was more of a monastery than anything, it still has the incredible views most castles provide. It should only take you about a half hour to wander around the grounds. There are some cute gift shops and an unexpectedly nice restaurant; most of which deserve more foot traffic than they surely get.

Templar's castle
Dec 2018 • Couples
Well preserved medieval castle, all structures are remained from several periods of castle (and country) history. Several Moors fortress basements could be seen, Templar's walls and keep tower, and later artillery time bastions as well. Walk along the walls is open and provides fantastic views far away on surrounding landscapes.Old church is open as well, but it is empty except some limited expositions, and waits the restoration work. Castle is very interesting for medieval reconquest history lovers, especially for crusaders fans. Unfortunately, the main keep tower is closed, wished to come in, and to ascent to it upper floor.
