One really gets the impression of a formal entryway. Although some of the tiles were lost in the earthquake - a few of them remain near the top. The traditional musicians were a nice touch.

This is a nicely tiled entranceway as you enter the old town thru its gate. The tilework on top is very nice, and there are usually musicians performing in the entranceway.

As you enter the village, you will pass through a gate like structure, you need to turn back to actually see this beautiful tilework on the top part.

A beautiful entrance to the castle at Obidos, and certainly makes you want to stop a while and look. We visited the castle in three occasions during our holiday and each time musicians were playing traditional music under this “dome”. Certainly worth stopping to take...More

I wouldn't call it an attraction in itself. But it's within the entrance gate to the walled city of Obidos. It's worth stopping for an extra look, and there were organised buskers playing right below. One pair of drum players as we entered, and a...More

The main picture on the profile is well lit; it is not this bright first thing in the morning. It is a beautiful arch and tiles, but you will pass through it in a minute.

Passing through this gate gives you a sense of stepping into the past. The combination of security for the walled village the gate would have provided with the artistry of the tiles dedicated to Mary gives a sense of how people lived and what was...More

As soon as you pass through this gate, you find yourself in the middle of a miracle. The city of Obidos with its narrow streets, little shops, colorful crockery and the monumental castle overlooking the entire area make you feel like the hero of a fairytale.

Most excellent waking tour with twin five year olds. Also stopped for a plate of meat and cheese from a little shop called Taberna O Lidador. All worth the drive from Lisbon. Very safe and the kids loved the castle.
