One of the interesting historical points of Obidos, the Pelourinho De Obidos was used for public humiliation for various offenses. I saw a few around Portugal but this by far the one that was the most active for picture taking ...

This monument was given by queen Leonor in 1492 to the local fishermen who had recovered her son's body after he died under mysterious circumstances the year before. It is by no means spectacular but its surroundings are complementary and rustic. It fits in nicely...More

Why I'm not sure. It was a meeting place and a place where the town cryer gave the news and proclamations. Interesting and a focal point. I guess we took a photo too

This is nothing amazing by itself, but it has a some interesting history of where people we pilloried.

Not overly impressive, right on the main little tourist street. Overlooks an old church. I wouldn't go out of my way, but you'll probably walk past it.

The pillory was a gift from Queen Leonor in 1492 to the people of Obidos for recovering the body of her son. Seems a bit ironic that her gift was then used to hang and execute criminals. Nice location in the main square.

If you walk the main shopping street of Obidos, you can't miss this ancient monument. The monument was erected to commemorate the fishermen who tried to save albeit unsuccesfully the then Queen's son who drowned.

This monument has history of 1500 about queen building this in gratitude of the fishmerman finding her Son body. This is now more a starting or meeting point for the village.

As other reviewers have noted, this monument was given by queen Leonor in 1492 to the local fishermen who had recovered her son's body after he died under mysterious circumstances the year before. Apparently it was later used as a pillory where criminals were bound...More
