We happened on this church by accident on our way to Fatima. It is a beautiful church and I wish we had been there during opening hours to see the interior, but the exterior alone is fabulous gothic architecture. I saw the burial site of...More

You can't miss the church as it is the main building of the Praca Santa Maria. The front is a simple renaissance style and not particulary eye catching. But inside there is a very lovely 17th century Baroque blue/white tiling and impressive oil paintings hung...More

This is a lovely church, perfectly formed with a lavishly decorated interior. The front Portal is also wonderfully done. The altar is surrounded by a wealth of paintings and looks spectacular. Nice to pause for a moment, have a wander around and then a sit...More

Although you might think this town is just one big tourist trap ( and if you are here in the afternoon there are tons of tourists) it really is an ancient functioning village. This church is an example. Very old, very pretty and they still...More

Nice little local old functional church, has some good paintings. Our guide told us that her parents got married there. Nice altar.

The church doesn't look like much from the outside (it had scaffolding on when we visited), but the interiors are amazing. It has ornate blue and white tiles all around the walls and the ceiling has colourful tiles too. You won't regret it.

It was hot - so we stepped inside. Peaceful and cool, it is a lovely little church. Really like the blue and white ceramic tiles. No fee to enter. Definitely worth a look. In the square outside the church - you find what used to...More

Small unassuming building on a village square presents a beautiful tiled interior with a painted wood vaulted ceiling. Every church in Portugal seems to have its own character while the elements that make them are fairly similar. This is a lovely church, perfectly scaled to...More

A quiet and intimate feeling inside the church. You can feel the mid-eve time. I liked the modesty , but with good taste.

On the first look from the outside another (very) big impressive church, but if you take the time to look into the details you will find many outstanding details. Especially for all people who are interested in architecture and handy craft the church will have...More

We’ve been visiting local churches and monasteries along our trip through Portugal. We’ve noticed each one has its own individual characteristics from the medieval times. So, with that being said be sure to bring your camera as there are many photo opportunities to capture.
