The facade of the church is not particularly impressive, but the empty Town Square in front of the church helps draw attention to it. The first thing one notices upon entry to the church are the azulejos tiles that completely cover both sides of the church. The altar is quite nice too.

My wife and I were on a Gate1 tour and we were on our own in Obidos.
We saw quite a few churches, Church of Saint Mary (Igreja de Santa Maria) and São Pedro Church & Chapel of Saint Martin. We spent some time at Sao Pedro Church (Church of St. Peter). To us, this was the best one to visit.
We were disappointed in the others.

This is a great old place to visit. It is very beautful. One of the best spots in a very beautiful city. I would really enjoy spending more time here.

When travelling by car in Portugal you should visit Obidos. The town is really something and worth a half/full day visit. The Santa Maria Church is one of the attractions that make the place magical, but if rated solely, it is nothing more than average. There are a few more churches in Obidos and much more more lovely places to see. If it was not in Obidos I would have ranked a bit lower ;) The square in front is nice and the interiors full of architecture from the era.

We happened on this church by accident on our way to Fatima. It is a beautiful church and I wish we had been there during opening hours to see the interior, but the exterior alone is fabulous gothic architecture. I saw the burial site of Ines and Pedro, but only later read about the legend.

This azuleo lined church of Saint Mary was originally a Visigoth Temple in the 8th century. Located right off the square on Rua Direita.

On the first look from the outside another (very) big impressive church, but if you take the time to look into the details you will find many outstanding details. Especially for all people who are interested in architecture and handy craft the church will have much to offer. Most impressive part for me was the unfinished part of the chuch. Outstanding stone mason work.

This is a beautiful little church deccorated with Portguese tiles and religious artifacts. It is quite a nice place to contemplate Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.

Santa Maria Church may be small but it packs a wallop. Beautiful painted ceilings over each of the three naves, and the walls are covered with 17th century tiles.

Being in Medieval Obidos was a huge treat for to begin with. We decided to look inside the churches. All 3 where nice. This one, Santa Maria Church was a hidden gem. I was not expecting to see the art treasures that awaited inside.
from the tiled frescoes to the art and statuary and the beautiful alter was a huge surprise. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet while I gazed at all of the art the church had to offer. If in Obidos, take a peek inside. I guarantee you your visit inside will turn into more than just a peek.

What are the mass times at Santa Maria? Is there an English mass and if so, what time?
