This is the main street. It is possible to drink Ginja, see local artists producing pottery, buy local handcraft, little souvenirs or beautiful jewels. I recomend walking this street up and down to check everything the lovely shops offer.

Rua Direita is a street that you can see right after crossing the Porta da Vila. This is Obidos' main street. A narrow street that leads from the main town gate to the castle and is surrounded by geraniums and bougainvillea, shops, restaurants and small galleries. Actually, it is the only true street in the city completely surrounded by a strip of defensive walls. It dates back to the 13th century and was expanded in the 16th and 17th centuries. Walking along Rua Direita, we also pass the picturesque main square, where the main church of the city, Igreja de Santa Maria, is located. This main street is one of a kind.

This is the main street that runs from the main gate past the town square to the castle at the north end of the village. Along the way there are store front stands selling "Licor de Ginja d'Obidos" which is Obidos' cherry liqueur served in an edible chocolate cup. When we visited, the stands closer to the main gate were selling each for €1.50 and the place was mobbed. Further down the road, the price dropped to €1.00 with far fewer people. There are two WC's on this road. When we visited, the one closer to the main gate was closed. So the WC closer to the town square has a long line for the ladies. As we strolled down the road, the whitewashed houses with bright blue and/or yellow trims make for a very photogenic image of a medieval village.

Rua Direita is the main street of Obidus, for which a significant part of tourists do not go out. Everything you need is taken out here: souvenirs, local liqueur and chocolate, the Portuguese capital of which is Obidos. There is nothing surprising or original about the street. The usual white-washed walls with blue trim. Sometimes decorated with geraniums. It's just that the street is very narrow and there is a feeling of overcrowding by tourists who stop at the shops on the outside, creating a sense of crowds. Maybe it happens naturally, or maybe it's a marketing trick.

It's the main street of Obidos so fairly touristy. You can taste the local sweet cherry liqueur from some of the shops here - Ginja. Well worth a try. For more of the character of Obidos try some of the side streets.

We strolled thru the Rua Diretta as sunset approached. There are many little shops to explore. Be sure to stop and taste the chocolate and the pastry or enjoy a coffee. Another local favorite is the Ginjinha liqueur made from sour cherries. It comes served in a small cup molded from edible dark chocolate with a small sour cherry at the bottom. I found it delicious although you probably don't want to sample too much!

This is a narrow street with a flagstone gutter in the centre, and who is going from one end to the orther end and is flanked by white houses decked with geraniums and bougainvillea. And not to Forget the single street with bars cafés, shops etc. to much to be mentioned all. Nice to see in summer and to walk up and down.

This is the Main Street in Obidos lined with restaurants, shops and bars. You have the city gate on one end and the castle on the other. It is a very romantic town.
