This church was near our condo and we went to check it out. Had the opportunity to hear Mass on a Saturday morning. It has services on weekends too.

The church is located at a nice viewpoint (you can spot the Castelo de São Jorge), but the church itself is not that special from the inside. You'll get the usual impressions, a painted ceiling, a rather scary looking statue of São Tomás de Villanova... But walk further on to the adjoining part in the convent and you will find a white room with tiled walls with macabre religious representations, like the beheading of monks!

This church can be at the top of a steep street depending on direction you visit but well worth the visit. Set in a great view point. The ceiling is the most impressive feature of this fine church.

We discovered this place after dining nearby with our two Lisbon based sons on Portugal Day and looking out across the city from the Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (formerly the Miradouro da Graça). An impressive exterior - we’ll have to try to get to see the interior on a future visit.
