It is also a nice miradouro with the view of Tagus river, the Church of SĂŁo Vicente of Fora, the National Pantheon and the roofs of houses in this part of the city. You can't see much of the sunset from here though and the late afternoon sun doesn't shine much to it. If you want some sun and sunset, try other miradouros.

From Miradouro Portas do Sol you have, let's say limited views. It is in the lower part of Alfama hill. You cannot see the city center as this lookout is oriented to the northeast - towards National Pantheon and St. Vincent de Fora Church and Monastery.
However, we enjoyed the atmosphere as there was a live band playing before sunset.
Opposite the Miradouro is the tram 28 stop to take you further exploring.

Come here for the view and drinks if you are in the area but don’t go out of your way to visit.

Staff was pleasant but service really slow, we waited over 10 minutes to be seated and our drinks took 20min to get and the food almost an hour to be served.

Food was ok, nothing special. Price you pay is for the location and view, not the service or quality of food. The drinks were really nice and if I go back I’ll skip the food and just go for a drink and enjoy the beautiful view over Alfama.

I don’t discourage visiting, just be aware that it’s tourist-y with just ok food you could get anywhere else for half price and probably quicker, but anywhere else won’t get you this view.

This little plaza is the best place for sunset and cocktails. Folks are really social and the kiosk called Quiosque Portas Do Sol offers cocktails, small bites, and seating right on the plaza overlook. The staff there are the best too!
Note; Avoid the little patio bar to the right called Terazio do Santa Luiza or something like that - the service is the worst. Stick to the overlook and enjoy the music too since local artists stop and play.

Just a few meters beyond the most famous viewpoint of Santa Luzia (it is separated only by the terrace of a bar and the stairs of an alley) is the miradouro das Portal do Sol, consisting of a simple terrace that acts as a roof for the building below. The area near the road is prettier, where there is the statue of S. Vicente and the tables/chairs of a kiosk bar. Even if the terrace is aesthetically less beautiful than the miradouro de Santa Luzia, the panorama is similar and indeed perhaps a little better here, due to the more evident profile of the Mosteiro de SĂŁo Vicente. Going down the stairs to the right of the miradouro, you will almost immediately come across an arch on the left, where the walls contain a mural. As already mentioned for that of Santa Luzia, the miradouro is not far from the cathedral and in any case tram 28 passes in front of it.

Large open terrace typically crawling with noisy walking-tour crowds, tuk-tuk groups, and the ubiquitous narcissistic selfie fans.

I can’t say I was impressed at all with this place. Basically, we all take the same photo of the same view, assuming someone’s selfie stick doesn’t first impale an innocent bystander.

The Miradouro de Santa Luzia just a few meters away actually has a much nicer environment than does the Miradouro das Portas do Sol. Of course, the view there is rather limited as well, but the ambience is considerably nicer than that of the Miradouro das Portas do Sol.

Probably the best viewpoint is the Miradouro da Graça some way up the hill.

The Miradouro das Portas do Sol is a beautiful garden with a lookout over the Alfama and Tagus River. Come here any time of the day to enjoy the view. Come in the evenings to also enjoy the sunset and some free music. You can buy a drink at the mini supermarket across the road, at the bar next to the terrace or from the local vendor. Nice relaxed vibe and plenty of seating and space.

Lovely place to walk around, we tried to get there for sunset. Not much of sunset but still lovely area. Live music , and someone selling ginjinha.
Several areas to eat and drink, and you can get the Tram here.

One of the best view points in town, this one from near the top of Alfama hill. You will gaze down on Baixa Chiado and to the river. Lots of tours stop here so plan to join crowds enjoying the view.

This lookout is just okay - there are better ones a short walk away.

There are several tables and a cafe, so it’s a nice place to hang out, but the view is limited.

For a better view, head just up the hill to some of the other lookouts, or go over to the castle.
