Feels very unsafe at night. Didn’t see a single woman on the road around 11pm while I got home. The area was full of sketchy men staring at you and whistling/catcalling - I felt very unsafe. This isnt an exaggeration. I wouldnt recommend staying here if you’re female and travelling solo

I wouldn’t recommend visiting this area, especially not at night, it’s a hub for the homeless and unsavoury types and we were even warned to be careful by our taxi driver. Safe to say we quickly got out of that area or at least tried to, we jumped into another taxi but the driver blatantly made things difficult for us and clearly didn’t want to take us anywhere and I’ll admit I have slammed the door of a few taxis since being in Lisbon and by this time, in this area I had had enough. Please please don’t go to this area, it is not worth it!

A degraded and poorly frequented square. I saw people urinating in front of everyone as if nothing had happened at 5pm, people selling drugs without problems. Be careful if you end up in these parts for tram 28 and 12, stay away from the central part of the square

kinda bewildered by the negativity here. This is a nice square. Didn't encounter anything or anyone sketchy. Nice water features and a nice view of the Castle. I would not make this a particular destination, but if/when you are walking in the neighborhood I would definitely spend some time enjoying it on your walk.

It is worth visiting San Jorge Castle, it is best to take Tram 28 up due to the height difference. There is a 30 minute wait for the Tram, but less long lines before 9 a.m. Unfortunately, there is still more than an hour to wait at the castle.

A square in a fairly rundown area of Lisbon. Seems to attract a certain vibe after dark. The Martim Moniz metro station is at the north side of it and the Tram 28 line starts here as well. It’s not a tourist destination!!

We had an appartement closeby so we walked here almost daily. Based on the reviews and description, I believe this place is not what it used to be. There were no markets and at night there were a lot of immigrants and homeless people. Since I was with my partner I still felt safe/at ease, but I think that I would've felt unsafe/not at ease with a female friend. There is a pretty decent supermarket for an easy breakfast/lunch.

It's a big square where a couple of neighborhoods come together and the site of a big Metro station. The center of the South Asian community, plus a lot of Africans. Good place to seek out an ethnic restaurant. Not pretty.

Not the best area in Lisbon, but not the worst either. This large square is a transportation hub with access to the metro on the north end, tram 28 and 12 on the southeast side and a couple of bus stops (one on the south side and the other on the west side. There are numerous water features within the square and while we stayed at Hotel Mundial with a view of the square, we saw public works cleaning the square daily.

We stayed at a VRBO apartment across from Martim Moniz Park. The park was a dump. It was overrun by drunks and homeless people after the dark. The derelicts would scream and fight during the night. They littered the park, too. The park was dirty. Don't stay anywhere near Prace Martim Moniz. Yeah, it's the beginning of the 28 Tram and it has a Metro station. That's about the only two good things about the place.
