About
Lisbon – Chiado The first A Vida Portuguesa shop opened in June 2007 in the heart of the Chiado neighbourhood. Occupying the centennial and extraordinary space of the old warehouse and perfume factory David & David, we have kept the beautiful cabinets and jars of powder left behind. As well as everything else, proving that it is possible to open new stores while fully preserving historic interiors. Here you will find all our unique everyday products, rescued from the memory of the country; the most beautiful and careful selections of: jewellery, embroidery, ceramics, aluminium, toiletries, stationery, books, toys, plus a wide range of cleaning products, food and drink. In 2009, A Vida Portuguesa was selected as one of the 10 most original shops in town by Time Out Lisbon.

Neighborhood: Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

Travelled across Lisbon specifically for this store, opening times online said open, got there and it was CLOSED........ for inventory apparently
Very disappointed, wasted a whole day travelling for nothing.

This is the shop that represents Portugal and the Portuguese culture, find authentic products with modern design twists.
But it’s all about service, the management really need to establish a mystery shopper program.
The shop manager/cashier is a rude salesman, and by no means represents the friendly nice Portuguese people.
We really like the product line, and my family is a loyal customer. Most international visitors flock to the shops, looking for Portuguese products and learning about the culture.
I hope our next visit will be more memorable.

If you want a good quality gift for friends this is the place to buy it. Soaps, Tiles, Ceramics, Wines, etc...with a vintage beautiful package. Love the ceramic swallows to hang on the wall.

I was scolded by a rude male clerk. I was interested in a shaving cream, so I carefully opened the unsealed box to take a look at the container and maybe get a whiff of the scent (there was no tester and it’s expensive). After I removed the cap I noticed the container was sealed so no luck. But as I was closing it, the clerk asked me, with a ton of attitude, if “he could help me”. I said no thanks. He said I should then not open the box. I told him it was unsealed and he said that other people wouldn’t want to buy the product because it was open. It was a ridiculous and baseless argument from his side. And he addressed me like I was 5 years old. I’m freakin 40. He could have been a lot more courteous. This is customer service 101. Nice store, rude clerk.

Stumbled upon this shop on accident. Cute shop full of Portuguese housewares. I’m a sucker for fancy soaps and they have a great selection! This is a great place to get unique little gifts or souvenirs for friends and family (or for yourself!).

I´ve read about this shop when I did my research on Lisbon. Everybody was raving about it, saying that if you want to buy a souvenir, this is the place to shop. Not at all! I mean, they have nice things, but rather expensive for a souvenir. If you want to buy just some little reminders of your trip, it´s totally unnecessary to go search for this hidden place full of nice but expensive things. They sell food (wine, sweets, canned fish- you can buy it anywhere really), vintage comestics (who needs another soap?!) or lovely tiles (not practical if you travel with carry-on only and again, don´t want to spend a lot of money). However, if you find yourself in the area, go for a look. It´s nice, just not what I expected from all the reviews.

A cute little shop with a wide selection of Portuguese products. Pricey. I went to a local pharmacy and found the exact same soaps for half the price.

This is a beautifully curated shop selling Portuguese products ranging from textiles to bath and body products to food/alcohol to kitchenware. It's the perfect place to find gifts to take home from a trip to Lisbon. Many of the food/alcohol products are also available in smaller gift sizes, too. The staff is very helpful and they have a great selection of items to browse. Prices are mid-range.

This shop has something for absolutely everyone, in all price ranges. Even my husband got himself something, and he hates shopping and buying anything. This shop has beautiful items that are made in portugal. If you want something authentically portuguese, this is the place to go. I cannot rave enough about this shop. I hit almost all the top rated shops on Trip Advisor -- this should be number 1 for Lisboa. I love finding those hidden gems amongst all the crappy tourist shops and this was a winner!

Just a quick list of some of what this shop sells: soaps, ceramic sparrows, linens, embroidery, postcards, stationary, diaries, calendars, jewelry (a bit pricey), olive oil, craft beer, port wine, sea salt, sardines, stationary, rubber stamps, ceramics bowls/vases, shaving brushes, blades and barber accessories, blankets, small mats, rugs, kitchen utensils, children's toys, rubber stamps, fruit preserves. I could go on and on.

Oh, and this is the smaller shop in the city centre. I didn't go to the larger one near intendente fearing I would buy even more stuff. The larger shop has its own trip advisor page.
