I really enjoyed my time in this small museum devoted to the former colony in China. This is a unique part of the world, once a mash-up of Portugal and China. So this museum shows off some of the treasures of the former colony.

Well this was a cute little find. We explored for anything from Macau in town and found this museum on the street car line. Some interesting artifacts and historic displays from the colonial period, plus information of what you can find in Macau now. Quiet and only 2 other guests around.

The Macau Science & Culture Center in Portugal is in the first Line not a Museum , but in the Builduing there is a part dedicated to the History of the Portuguese Asian Relationship . The Single addult Ticket is 3 Euros . The " Museum " is closed on Mondays and most of the commun national holidays . This House has nothing to do with the Museum do Oriente . Its a indipendent House , mainly focused on the exchange , study past and actual relationships with Asian Countrys but of course focused on China / Macau . The Exhibition , even small , is well done and ( i will call it so ) The Macau House offers changing exhebitions besides the permanent exhibitions . Unfortunatly i didnt fin a english version from the Website . You have a really nice Coffea Corner where you can relax . And if you need a Elevator too access the Levels there is also one . But , what i would like to subline is the peacefull Garden ideal during the Sommer Months to take a break and just relax . Overall , if you have the time , the patience and are in the area , i think this place should be an add if you also visited the Museu do Oriente . What you miss there about Macau you will find here and even " with a small " collection mostly focused on Macau ...its not bad at all .

This museum does have a small but impressive collection of Chinese art. However it is so poorly lit that the items are hard to see and the descriptions impossible to read. There is a second section devoted to Macau's history, and I did learn about the early centuries of Portuguese settlement. But the history stops at the 18th Century and there is nothing on more modern times. No one to check us in, so it was free! Only 2 other people in the place.

This little Museum presents the history of Macau is a very nice and modern way. The exhibits are carefully selected and the texts provide a very good overview- in particular regarding the cultural and ecological exchange (some plants we consider typical Asian actually were introduced into Asia through Macau like sweet potato, peanuts . The audioguide is for free, but we had to ask for it

While this museum is small, it is nicely designed and has plenty to see. I knew nothing about Macau, and learned about its pivotal importance in Portugal's history of trade with China and Japan. I also learned that Macau is not an island, as I thought, but a city, sort of a Portuguese equivalent of Hong Kong. It remained a Portuguese territory till 1999. The museum has quite a lot of Chinese porcelain, some exhibits concerning missionary activities, some textiles, opium pipes, paintings, etc. We combined our visit with one to the LX Factory, an easy walk away and a good place for a meal.

It's a small but excellent museum with a beautiful and precious collection displayed in 2 floors for all the family. The space is dedicated to the history and culture of Macao explained in Portuguese and English showing many beautiful objects . It is definitely a must visit museum in Lisbon.

This is a quite small museum with interesting pieces from the chinese enclave of Macau, and the relationships between Portuguese and oriental empires like China and Japan. We have enjoyed the pieces, some of which quite particular (e.g. a portable altar), the animated exhibition (a kind of theatrical representation projected in different small transparent screens distributed in a large, sailing, ship mode), and the explanations that make clear how Portuguese came to Orient and what they did there. Very quiet place.

This museum is somewhat in between Belem and Lisbon downtown, so most transportation, tram #15, bus #727, that takes you to Belem will stop by.
The first time we went, we arrived shortly before 5:30, and was told that we couldn't go in. The man pointed to the sign, last admission 17:30. I looked at my phone, 5:24pm. The man pointed to his watch, which hand is slightly to the right of half past. I told him we were from Macau but that didn't impress him. I was about to try persuading him but then realized that the museum was probably empty and the guy was all set to go home. Oh well.
We managed to go there another day. It's a rather small museum of three stories, mostly a collection of artifacts: porcelains, Catholic artifacts, books, etc that shows a mix of culture: Chinese-looking angels, European scenery on Chinese vases, for example. However, most items do not have much explanation enclosed. There is a film about the Sao Paolo church, the landmark of Macau, but curiously didn't mention how it comes to be left with just the front façade standing (destroyed by fire).
Overall, I don't find it very informative, educational or entertaining. It's shame that this little museum doesn't live up to its potential of sharing the unique and wonderful heritage of Chinese and Portuguese.

When I walked into this little museum which was a little bit hard to find as well, the women at the kassa seemed a bit surprised by an internation, English speaking visitor.
The museum is rather small, especially if you compare it to the oriental museum which deals with similar topics and exhibits. Nevertheless it is interesting as it concentrates on a more specific topic.
The entrance price is quite cheap as well and while it isn't on a must see list for Lisbon, I would go there if you have enough time.
