The shop is quite hard to find, but it is one of the best souvenir shops in Lisbon and for adequate price. Ceramics is amazing and there is wide range of prices starts at approx 9€. It was properly wrapped and the staff was friendly and polite. Go there if you don't want to buy mass production in common souvenir shops.

I really wanted to find hand painted tiles during my stay in Lisbon and this place came up from a quick Google search. It did not disappoint! It's a small, quiet business but has a wide range of quality artwork in different sizes. All three of us ended up buying something. It makes the perfect, authentic decor. The business owners were very nice and wrapped the artwork so that I had no problem traveling with it.

I'm from Lisbon and I love tiles, so, this is one of my favorite shops in town.
It's one of the few places in Lisbon where you can buy authentic hand painted tiles. From single tiles (easy to carry) to tile panels, they're all beautiful and special.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful, plus, they take orders and do shippings...
If you're looking for something nice to take back home don't look further more and pay them a visit!

I made a hand painting tiles workshop and it was really special. D. Josefa is really nice and caring and she really knows how to explain the techniques. Even being my first time doing this, I never expected the result would look so good. So, besides admiring the wonderful tiles and pottery in the shop, I could also paint my own tile! A really nice souvenir to take home. Oh, and I couldn't resist the tile necklaces - a great idea, and a unique piece for sure.

Loja dos Descobrimentos was one of my favorite destinations in Lisbon. My schedule didn't allow a visit to the tile museum so I went online and found this store and managed to get there an hour before closing. The store is right by the Harbor in the Alfama district - a wonderful historic place to visit and within easy walking distance of the main square by the river. It is full of truly beautiful hand painted tiles in multiple traditional designs, as well as some whimsical contemporary designs. I was able to purchase gifts to take home and am still dreaming of ordering some murals to use within my home. I can't begin to describe the vibrancy of the colors and the intricacy of some of the designs - you'll have to go yourself. The man working the cash register very kindly spoke English (fluently) and wrapped my tile purchases (including a ceramic bowl) so carefully that they survived the plane ride home (in my hand baggage) without a scratch. Even if you don't intend to purchase, I recommend this store for the opportunity to see traditional designs and colors up close.

If you're going to bring something home from Portugal that fits in a suitcase, go for the tiles and ceramics. I visited LdD on a weekday morning and had the place to myself. You can find anything between 10 and 600 Euro depending on size and complexity of the piece. The repertoire of images wasn't hugely varied but they had lots of fish, which is what I wanted. Quality is very much higher than the typical gift shop, and of course, so is the price, though it is not outrageous. Worth it for me. The older couple running the place were very nice, took their time to explain everything and wrapped up the items beautifully. This was exactly what I was looking for and now I can't wait to get back and decorate my kitchen.

We didn't have much time for shopping so head straight to where the Lonely Planet guide recommended and were very happy to find such beautiful pottery, which you could tell had much better quality that the one we saw in the turistic shops. Glad we found this place!

We were only in Lisbon for a couple of days and wanted to shop for ceramics/pottery. This store and the owners are gems! Beautifully handmade items of every size and style. This is the perfect place to find many wonderful items. Although shipping charges can be expensive, we had our purchases shipped back to the United States and everything arrived safely and within two weeks! It was well worth the added expense.

This shop has a good range of decent products, but compared to some other more 'arty' shops (e.g. Carboni & Accattatis on Rua dos Remedios or Artesanato de Portugal on Rua Augusto Rosas) the prices are 10-20% higher and the products just a bit predictable (not because of a lack of skill by the tilers, but surely because of the need to adapt to tourist expectations). That being said, there are a few good buys to be made here - mostly the less obvious stuff like small olive bowls, which are both prettier and more competitively priced.

This shop is only a short walk from the central Praca do Comercio and was by far the best place we found for purchasing hand-painted tile souvenirs. It isn't large, and was a little difficult to find (we had to enter through the hotel next door), but the selection was beautiful. There was a nice range of sizes as well as prices. We enjoyed looking around, shopping, and finally deciding on a purchase. Definitely recommend stopping in here; they will ship your purchase if it's too big to carry home with you.
