Four of us went on an all-day driving/walking tour of Lisbon, Portugal with Elsa as our guide and Rui as our driver. As a native of Lisbon, Elsa was so knowledgeable about the city, from one end to another, and took us places we probably never would have gone otherwise. Rui drove through the narrow cobble streets of Lisbon with the precision of someone who knew exactly what he was doing. Together they made the tour fun and enjoyable and the hours flew by. It could not have been better and we so appreciate all Bothe Elsa and Rui did to make the tour amazing. We feel like we ended with two new friends!

Our private tour guide, Elsa, was unbelievably knowledgeable and made the experience incredible. We tour with her on two separate days and there was a great sense of camaraderie. Visits included Sintra and Cascais on one day and Obidos, Nazare, and Fatima on another. We would have only learned a mere fraction of the information if we went on our own -- Elsa always had so much more useful, interesting, and valuable to add. Could not recommend this company (and Elsa in particular!) any more strongly!

It was a day trip from Lisbon to Bengali Caves in Algarve then back to Lisbon. It was a first class experience with both knowledgeable and caring people from my friends in Lisbon. The time flew by each way in the car and boat and the Caves were phenomenal. The water and the light were stunning. We saw a pod of dolphins in the sea and our skipper followed them so we could all see the dolphins. Elsa was a terrific tour guide with Alex as the driver. We all had a wonderful Portuguese lunch with grilled sea bass at local restaurant. It was a 10 out 10 experience. Thank you.

Thank you, Matthew, for taking the time to review us. We have read your kind words with great happiness. The Lisbon to Benagil tour is one of our favorites and the dolphins that showed up this morning just made it even more special. It was great meeting you and sharing this special experience with you. We hope to see you one of these days, when you come back to Lisbon.

Did a 3 hour walking tour with Leo, who was extremely informing, interesting and fun. The tour provided us with good historical information along with some interesting details of the places we saw and the people who passed through over the ages. We highly recommend this tour.

We had a wonderful family vacation to Portugal in August. Everything was perfect about our time in Lisbon except for our tour with Marta. My family and I thoroughly researched different walking tours and selected this one based on the positive reviews & price. Unfortunately, Marta was quite frankly very rude & unpleasant. She answered questions from family members on the tour like she was annoyed. Marta guided us through the beautiful streets of Lisbon but only spoke to one of the men in the group. She totally ignored the rest of us like we weren't even on the tour. She also wanted to end the tour at a bar even though we were traveling with children. There are a lot of other guides in Lisbon so I definitely wouldn't recommend Marta.

Our team has received your review with great sadness. We have worked for 4 years with only 5 and 4 stars in all the review platforms. This is the first negative review that we have, after hundreds of reviews and thousands of happy customers from all over the world. Marta has several of those amazing reviews. So it is naturally a big disappointment. I personally think negative reviews show you the way to improve. We will do that and keep working as obsessively as until now to be better every day. The biggest challenge for a company that offers private tours is to adjust to what different travelers are looking for. If you didn’t like the tour, it means that we were not able to do that and we have to be better. As soon as this tour ended, I received a report from a very frustrated guide: 1. When your family (2 adults and 3 children) met the guide, you mentioned being tired from the trip and not sure if you wanted to do the tour because it was a hot day. You had just done check in at the hotel and the kids were excited with the swimming pool. You made it clear that they preferred to go to the swimming pool. Your husband insisted: “Lets just do a bit of the tour with Marta, see how the kids react and then we go to the hotel”. And so we started the tour. 2. The tour includes several stops. When Marta stopped to show you some interesting points of the city, your husband was the only one stopping with her. She would explain each of the places, but you always kept going and stayed several meters ahead, so she was talking mainly with your husband. 3. After 15 minutes, your husband told Marta: “I have no interest in what you are telling me, talk with my wife, she is the one that is interested”. 4. Marta continued talking about the city, its culture and points of interest. She went ahead and tried to talk mainly with you, since your husband had no interest. Until you said: “You don’t need to talk about that with me. I have no interest in that information”. 5. The guide was now in a difficult situation because the 2 adults were not interested in the tour. She tried to suggest a cafe or a bar where you could seat down and maybe have a drink, talk a bit, see what your interests were. You were not interested. 6. You told Marta that you wanted to go to an area good for the kids. She took you to Alfama, a place that has less cars, so they could be a bit more free. They were repeatedly asking for the swimming pool. As soon as you ended Alfama, you asked Marta for a taxi to get back to the hotel. She helped you with that and ended very frustrated feeling that she didn’t have the opportunity to show you how beautiful Lisbon is. We have had thousands of travelers from every corner of the world. It was the first time someone told us not having any interest in the informations about the culture and history of the country. Our mission is to share our passion for Portugal with travelers but to do it we absolutely need an interested traveler. It is just really sad that we were not able to do it.

A sunny afternoon in Lisbon could not have been better! Our knowledgeable and nice guide Maria took us to a lot of historic places which ended in a fabulous winebar in Bairro Alto with port wine tasting (5 different and some amazing dry white ones) and delicious tapas. We (a couple) thought we were going to be a part of a group when we booked the trip before we arrived Lisbon, so it felt like luxury to discover that we had our own guide for 4 hours with the possibility to learn a lot of both historical and todays Portugal, combined with Portugese food, wine and friendly service from the personell.

If you're looking for a good way to ground your stay in Lisbon I would highly recommend this tour. We met with Alex who took us around to Alfama, Baixa and Chiado, stopping along the way with many tidbits that you'd only get from a local. Very impressed with Alex. She was highly knowledgeable and kind. Would definitely recommend you try this tour!!

Wow, this was quite the treat!

Else, our guide (who felt like our friend by the end of the tour), was just amazing! I felt like this was the coolest Portuguese History crash course that I had ever taken. I also learned about the little secrets about Lisbon, some tips about traveling in Portugal, and was able to taste some delicious Port wine, charcuterie and cheese by the end of the tour. Elsa gave us FIVE hours of her time, which would've never happened with another tour - she also personalized our tour and was very flexible. We had a great conversation the whole time and my father was really happy and satisfied with everything. When I go back to Lisbon, I'll be using Your Friend in Lisbon again. Thanks so much!!!

Based on the good recommendations on Tripadvisor, we had spontaneously decided to book a tour with 'Your friend in Lisbon' to discover the town.

Honestly, we had first thought of just taking these usual Hop on - Hop off busses to visit the different monuments. But seeing the city the first time with its beautiful but at the same time haunted parts just raised so many questions, the electronic guide on such a bus would never had been able to answer. That's why we then LUCKILY went for a private tour.

We were lucky to meet Elsa who was such a kind, intellectual and flexible women, who managed it to give two generations the understanding of the inspiring history and culture of Lisbon, without boring anybody!
Moreover she answered all our questions and we really had the feeling we were shown around by a friend.
When we got a bit tired, we just took a seat in a café, chatting about music, the life in town but also economics in Lisbon. Being interested in ceramics and the portuguese cuisine, Elsa accompanied us to a library and helped us choosing the right literature, just to give examples.

We really enjoyed our time discovering! Thank you so much!

My husband and visited Lisbon for five days in April, a trip arranged by Portugal Trails (see separate review) They booked us a 3 hour private walking tour of Lisbon with Your Friend in Lisbon. Our guide, Pedro, was personable, knowledgeable and showed us how to navigate the lower part of the city as well as visit sites unknown to the typical tourist. For example, at one metro station it is possible to descend to where the metro lines are located, and then go up three escalators to reach a high point in the city. He also gave us advice on museums to visit and helped us purchase tickets for the metro system. All in all, a great, in depth tour.
