The tour lasted just over an hour with an English speaking guide. She was excellent and we saw the theatre from top to bottom (seamstresses room; small theatre; main auditorium; dressing room; foyer; and area for scene painting. We were a small group of eight....More

This is a lovely building in central Lisbon. We were rather disappointed that once again - the building was not open to tours during our visit.

Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II located on Rossio Square is really a beautiful architectural piece. It is constructed to celebrate birthday of Queen Dona Maria II. Nonetheless we have time constraint and cannot enter to see the internal part of the theater.

Unfortunately we couldn't go on the tour, the guide talked for 4mins in Portuguese then 30secs in English, another 4mins in Portuguese then 30secs in English, we realised this wasn't going to work :-( It is a beautiful building though.

The beautiful theatre building at Rossio Square is constructed to mark the birthday of young Queen D. Maria II. In fact the whole building has been reconstructed after the damage by fire in 1964 but it looks pretty nice around the neighbouring structures.

Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II is a fine theater created in traditional classic style overlooking Rossio Square and complementing the grand station next door.

I can't tell you how impressed I am with the tile work in lisbon...it enhances all the buildings esp this teatro with its lovely accented colored words. This area and mainly the building is a must see. Such a beautiful building.

A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake

earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the
