About
Quake is a thematic experience that allows us to see and feel the Great Lisbon Earthquake. It is an invitation, in the form of a journey through time, to discover more about the 1755 Earthquake, about the Age of Enlightenment, about Lisbon and about seismic events. Being better prepared for a new earthquake is what Quake is all about. At Quake you will have the opportunity to relive this extraordinary earthquake - reproduced by a simulator in a safe environment, using video mapping and special effects. Through interactive stations you will also be able to learn more on the origin of earthquakes and tsunamis and better understand why Lisbon was so affected in 1755.

QUAKE is a must-see in Lisbon
Fun and interactive way of learning more about a historical natural event that shaped Lisbon and Europe in the 18th century. Relevant for adults and children alike, a factual retelling with an interesting background narrative to keep you entertained for nearly 2 hours. And more importantly, it looks into the past, to prepare you for a (potential, hopefully not) future - expect the unexpected!
Thank you very much for sharing your review. We are very pleased to hear you had a great experience with us. We hope to see you again at Quake! All the best, Quake Team

Unmissable! Don't leave Lisbon without visiting the Quake museum.
Searching for options to escape the torrential rain one day in Lisbon, we decided to give the Quake museum a go and we were so glad we experienced this. The museum is easy to get to (very close to Pasteis de Belem and the Jeronimos monastery) with a well planned and interactive exhibition educating visitors both on the science of earthquakes as well as the history of Lisbon before, during and after the 1755 earthquake. There's even a simulation room where you get to experience the 1755 earthquake for yourself! A thoroughly enjoyable experience for all ages, young and old.

A new dawn after deviation! A must see historical experience like no other.
The technology used in this interactive experience was amazing! I found hard to describe to the rest of our group who didn't go because my photos didn't do it justice. Definitely go see this! Get your tickets early...we thought about got there at noon and the next available time wasn't until 3pm. They only allow you in at intervals (roughly a group of 20 at a time) I think every 10 min. It's not something you wander through on your own. The quake was devastating but the history of what happened in the aftermath were amazing.

Great experience ! We never heard about this museum and take a look just to spend free time in our afternoon and this was spectacular! It was very interesting to learn more about the 1755 Earthquake in Lisbon! I highly recommend to go there!

    Don't miss it!
I visited it with my husband and my eleven-year-old son and all of us enjoyed it a lot. The staff was quite nice and the experience very interesting. You shouldn't miss it while in Lisbon. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is that, sometimes, there was not enough time in certain areas to really take in all the information or try all the interactive activities. Everything else was just great.
Thank you for your comment. We inform that Quake was thought for everyone, from children (above 6 years old), to adults, tourists, locals, history lovers, amateur scientists... to everybody that loves feeling strong emotions, thus the duration of the visit. Best regards, Quake Team

    Quake rattle and roll!!!
Had a great time here despite the tragic theme!! Good interactive rooms, just not always enough time to complete everything before we were moved on to the next room. Staff are brilliant- friendly, helpful and bi lingual with instructions. More could be added about tsunami but each room had a different vibe and all were cool in their own way.
Thank you very much for your feedback! We hope to see you again, Quake Team

Great way to learn the history of Lisbon
We decided to go to this museum because we thought the kids would enjoy it being more focused towards them and we were correct. This exhibit shows you the history of Lisbon and their devastating earthquake which shaped the city. Afterwards we all had a really good understanding of the event and its impact. A lot of the technical education of an earthquake the kids already had learnt from school, but they learnt some history of the city which they were in. The interactive rooms and displays are so well presented for school kids - well done.

    Designed well
Organized, hands-on, interactive. Great for families and while it is partly guided you can also take it at your speed too. Designed very well with education and advocacy in mind. Was a great experience with a cafe at the end!

So glad we made time for this…LOVED IT!
Wonderful experience and a must do if you have the time. This interactive experience provides a full accounting of this tragic event that reshaped this wonderful city. Friendly staff, reasonable price and 2 hour tour make this perfect if you have a few hours to kill.

Yes, it's very expensive. If you book online on short notice it's 28€. No student discount. If you can afford it, and also can afford spending 10€ too much for what you get, then we would definitely recommend it. It's something very impressive, something you have never done before. It's less of a museum but rather a story that you dive into. There are different rooms with impressive backdrop. It's all very multimedia, professionally done, very impressive! It reminded us of an escape room, but there aren't any puzzles to solve.

it gives you an impressive experience of the dimension of the quake in 1755. And you get to learn loads of facts about earthquakes.

You go through the journey in groups. Every room (except the second last) is precisely timed and you only have a certain amount of time to spend in there, then you need to go on. The times is not enough to see, read and hear all, which is unfortunate. They try to compensate it with these scanning points, so that you can later acces further information after the visit.

The multimedia is brilliant. Very creative. The earthquake experience is good, but with VR it would even be more impressive which is a missed oportunity for the creators.

Everything is clearly explained, except the second last room. There you are free to stay longer or not, which allows you to time your visit 10min longer or shorter. But also we found this room to be confusing, not sure, where they wanted to take us. Too much (unnecessary) information.

All in all it's sometimes a bit too basic, which makes it ideal for kids.

Still the whole thing is very impressive and definitely worth a visit.

If you can, book it as long in advance as possible, and go there on a Monday, since then it's the cheapest (21€).

The staff is super friendly and helpful.

A big minus for us was the delay at the start. You have to book the esact time, when you will start (every 10 or 20min I think). So we expected it to be preciseley timed. And since they write on the website, that it takes 1h40min, we planned everything so that we will catch the train after. But then we had a delay of 10min, and since you cannot just walk out halfway, as in a usual museum, we were very anxious if we will miss our train. They couldn't give us the information, that there is the possibility to rush the second last room, so it only takes you 1h30min, and so everything worked out for us and the worry was unnecessary.

All in all, we think 15-max 20€ would be a reasonable price, especially for students. (The Lisbon story center costs just 4.50 for students and is also a great place to get a feel for the 1755 earthquake. If your budget is tight, just do that.)

Thank you for your review. We are very pleased to hear you had a great experience with us. We hope to see you again at Quake. This is an immersive and interactive experience that lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes, allowing one to watch and feel the Great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake. Through video-mapping, simulators, historical research and interactive technology, you can get new knowledge about the 1755 Earthquake, the Enlightenment Age, different seismic events and about the history of Lisbon, elements that we believe justify the price. If you buy your ticket until the day before your session takes place, a 10% discount on the price will be made. All the best, Quake Team

A highly interactive and informative museum. It covers both the devasting 1755 earthquake and subsequent reforms as well as raising awareness for earthquake planning and safety for individual. Only a small number of people can enter at a time, so the price is higher than most Lisbon museum but the content and style make it worthwhile.

As a regular visitor to Lisbon, I've seen most of the main attractions. I will also confess to not being a big Museum person, though I DO go. I was curious about this new arrival on the scene. It was a really clever concept by the owners(?). Technology is used a lot, a reflection of the world today. You enter in groups in a time slot. Everything is clearly explained by a guide before entering the experience. You learn a bit aout how/why earthquakes happen, what's being done to earthquake-proof building etc. You travel together through time to visit Lisbon of the 18th century. You hear stories of people who were interviewed afterwards - and the decisions that were made by Portuguese leaders to develop the city we see today, and all of this was done in a highly entertaining way. The building is lovely and bright, the staff are welcoming and multi-lingual and there's a shop and cafe also. If I had any concern, it was that it needs better signage , as , once I got off the 15E tram from the city, I walked around in circles clutching my phone and blindly following Google maps. So if the Powers that Be read this....you need to sort it! For anyone else, it's to the left of the Museu Nacional dos Coches, which is across the road from the tram stop.

If you visit this museum you are in for a terrific experience. It’s a little expensive, but numbers of visitors are limited to allow you to get the best experience. The ‘tour’ is taken through different rooms with differing hands on experiences. All of you senses are stimulated, from amazing sound quality, brilliant video reels, smells and even heat from the burning buildings. It’s great for all ages and we would highly recommend a visit.

This is the most overhyped and disappointing activity in Lisbon.
All smoke and mirrors, and NO value for money, not cheap either, and a total waist of time.
Un eganging and just plain boring, for a young ten and a adult thst are very open minded.
A big hype and not worth your time or money.
The staff was very on autopilot and disengaged, uninterested and non welcoming.
Not recommended and will not return.
Stay away much better options abd better value for money around.

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us, Thomas. We regret that the experience was not to your satisfaction. We take the chance to explain that the main goal of Quake is to share knowledge and prepare populations for a future earthquake. We believe that through entertainment, learning is much easier and fun, but we also believe that this knowledge should be available to everyone.

A lot of lights and modern equipaments, but not so interesting contents...
Rooms with limited time to visit. If you need one more minute to read or experience, you can't.
Too expensive.
No human interaction, besides staff that control entering and exits of the rooms.
