To reach the Miradouro de Santa Catarina (Santa Catarina Overlook, take the Ascensor da Bica to the Barrio Alto. When you exit the Ascensor da Bica go left on Calçada do Combro. Turn left on the first street you come to and continue walking straight ahead and you will eventually come to the overlook, which has a cafe with a seating area with views the river. Many consider this the best spot from which to photograph the the 25 de Abril Bridge and the Christ the King statue. Sometimes this miradouro is called the Adamastor Viewpoint because of the large statue of Adamastor, a mythical sea monster that stands here. After visiting the Santa Catarina Overlook, go back to Calçada do Combro and continue walking left and you will come to the Church of Santa Catarina on the opposite side of the street. Santa Catarina is noteworthy for its spectacular gilt work and for its 18th century rococo stucco ceiling, which is considered a masterpiece. (Note: if you retrace your steps along Calçada do Combro in the direction of the Ascensor da Bica it will eventually lead you to the Chiado neighborhood.

This was a particular highlight of my recent trip to Lisbon. Such a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy whilst admiring the views. Alcohol and other beverages can be purchased from a small hut. A pint of Super Bock was an extremley reasonable E2.50. Many people had gathered on the bank to enjoy a sunny afternoon. Some people were playing football, some were playing guitars, some playing drums. All at a sombre level in their own small groups, as opposed to playing to the entire crowd. Was a very cool, relaxing atmosphere to soak in, with everyone being friendly and on a similiar wavelength.

There may be better viewpoints in Lisbon but the relaxing nature of this one made it my personal favorite.

There's a slightly grotty feel here, exacerbated by the high number of drug dealers who prowl and peddle their wares (not in a pushy way, but even so). Still, kind of appropriate I suppose, since it's right next to the Museum of Pharmacy...

This is a dud if you have been to any of the other miradouros in Lisbon unless you like to see tiled roof tops. But it seems to be a good place to hang out as the grassy slope behind the viewing platform was filled to the brim with people just lying there seemingly enjoying people watching. If you have other more interesting places to explore, this is one place you can safely skip.

We had read so much about this place and were really excited to see the view from this vantage point. To get there, you have to walk precariously down a very steep hill and then drag yourselves up a dozen exhausting steps (as is the case in much of Lisbon). Once you get there, you will be disappointed to see that there is virtually no vista at all, if you call peeping through a fence blocked by buildings a vista. Don't waste your time.

This park is one of Lisbon's treasures. A wide open spot in a quaint neighborhood with beautiful views that draws locals and tourists alike. But Santa Catarina comes alive in the evening when the kiosk opens and visitors can enjoy a drink while they take in the views, people watch, and perhaps enjoy an impromptu show. Especially when the weather is nice, and particularly on weekends, you're likely to catch some local musicians who drop by and play through the night. This is a wonderful experience and a must on any visit to this great city. I suggest planning a visit before heading off to dinner. It will make for an evening you won't soon forget.

I wanted to visit this Miradouro with a friend of mine at 10 pm of a Friday night when suddenly we have been surrounded by 6 drug pushers. Two of them (one hooded) started to follow us for many meters despite our firm no to their offer but fortunately at that very moment other tourists came.

I wonder if the police intends to face the plague of drug pushers sooner or later as it is not a good advertisement for Lisbon and Portugal in general.

The miradouro is still inaccessible at present due to ongoing renovation. There are a couple of places where you can sit and have a drink and enjoy the view (in the area) however the miradoura is not one.

This park is one of Lisbon's treasures. A popular spot that draws locals and tourists alike. The neighborhood is quaint and the views are wonderful, but Santa Catarina comes alive in the evening when the local kiosk opens, and visitors queue up for a drink and the chance to sit, take in the view, and enjoy with a beer or wine with friends. When the weather is nice, and particularly on weekends, you're like to catch a show as well when local musicians drop by and play through the night.

This is a wonderful experience and a must on any visit to this great city. You can drop by anytime to enjoy the view, but I suggest dropping by for drinks before heading off to dinner. If the stars align, and you find pleasant weather, music, and people watching, it will make for an evening you won't soon forget.

I think it is the most easily accessible miradouro. The view is amazing: the 25 Abril bridge and the airplanes that start their landing in combination with the beautiful sunset makes it stunning.
