We just returned from Portugal and for our group of four, one of the highlights was our small group walking tour of Lisbon. This tour gave us a glimpse at what makes Lisbon such a vibrant and interesting place to visit. Our tour guide, Margarida, was excellent! Her knowledge was undeniable but more impressive to me was that she was... More

The tour with Joana Mateus was wonderful. She made it fun and interesting, a joy. It was also very informative, with lots of comments that bring one closer to the Portuguese way of living and to the soul of Lisbon. I am happy to recommend this tour and Joanna as a a great guide!

Our guide Margarida was both informative and chatty. The tour included drinks, food and a ferry trip and is a great way to be introduced to Lisbon and meet some nice people.

We had two days to spend in Lisbon, and Day 1, we registered (in advance) for the Lisbon Experience Walk. Best decision we made! They supplied 2 guides so each separate group remained small (approx. 10 people). Our terrific guide, Helder, was personable and extremely knowledgable and in fact, was a Ph.D. history candidate! The walk was well organized, felt... More

My first time in Lisbon I was looking for a tour that would give me a broad impression of the city. This tour exceeded my expectations! Helder (our guide) was super friendly and knew a lot about the city and it's history (fun fact: Helder means "clear" in dutch and so he was: a clear and passionate storyteller!). Above all... More

PERFECT! I had limited time and I wanted a broad, half-day tour of Lisbon culture, architecture and food/drink, and this was perfectly casual and thorough. Our guide, Helder, was a wonderful storyteller and obviously so passionate about his subject matter, it really pulled every one of us in. Plus, he gave an excellent recommendation on what to do for the... More

I cannot speak highly enough of this tour lead by the fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable Margarida!! The tour takes you off the touristy track and onto several hidden gems that likely are only know by locals. Definitely book this tour if you are going to Lisbon, like history, food and drinks!

Miguel was informative and extremely friendly. We learned a lot of Portuguese history and culture and he provided us with a lot of great tips for things to do. The food and drink on the trip was great and plentiful. We would absolutely go on a tour with Miguel again!

This was a combo of 2 - a morning walking tour of Lisbon and evening walking tour with Fado and tapas. Both were excellent. We had 2 excellent guides - Sofia in the morning and Rebeca in the evening. Both knew their history and were able to answer all questions. Sofia guided us through delicious tastings throughout our walk. Rebeca... More

We joined the walking tour of Lisbon a day before our faith-based tour of Fatima, Lourdes, and shrines of Spain. We met Helder at the Placa Restauradores. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we were the only guests of the your. It was like getting a private guide all to ourselves. We were lucky that Helder is like a... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
