Mad at night time !

This is a street which turns into party time at night. It’s really painted pink ….so you can’t miss it. Lots of umbrellas at night to add to the colour.

To each his own!

Some of the negative reviews of this place just go to show how varied people’s likes and dislikes are!

I really loved this street! Yep, it’s ‘just a street’, but it has great character and an interesting history. Also, visitors no longer have to ‘guess’ it’s pink.

The overhead umbrellas add to the colour palette. The coffee shop beneath the brollies wasn’t yet open or I would have stopped for a cup of java!

I saw no signs whatsoever of drug dealers or any other ‘bad guys’.

Very easy to get there from Cais do Sodré metro. Just cross the main drag, then simply ask someone - preferably a young person, as young people typically know English whereas older folks do not - how to get to Pink Street - far easier than trying to decipher Google maps. Or, if you have GPS, use that.

If you are in the area or heading to see the market or time out market, come to take a look... I would not bother to travel here only for the pink street as it is not worth it

Cause de Sudré, Lisbon

The pink street itself was not the problem. But getting there is now rather dangerous.
We visit Lisbon every year, for the past 7 years and never had issues.
This year though, my partner was robbed by drug dealers on the first day there. After that we were constantly harassed by drug dealers. They would be really aggressive and would come up in groups of 3 towards my partner. They would pressure him and follow him or block his way (even during the day in busy places) until I’d speak to them in Portuguese to tell them that we are not interested. There was no police presence and these dealers seems to be taking over the area of Cais de Sudré.
It was a very unpleasant experience for us and my partner did not feel comfortable to go anywhere on his own (he is quite pale and has light hair, therefore was easily identified as a tourist).
Apart from that people seemed a little shady and were either trying to sell something or were rude and not happy to see tourists.
We used to absolutely love Lisbon but after this experience we don’t feel like returning.

Walking along the street you can't help thinking what it was like hundreds of years ago. Sailors used to come here after disembarking. Working girls standing out on the balconies.

Nowadays the ground level are restaurants. The windows and rooms upstairs some are still broken and seems not in use. The set of buildings on the other side of the arch seems not in use.

Cool spot!
Jan 2020
My husband and I celebrated his 40th birthday with a first time trip to Portugal. One of our friend recommended the Pink Street, while it is a short (pink) street. We liked it since it was a happening night spot with all the (seedy) bars. The history of the neighborhood is interesting (former 'red light' district) and I just liked the cool pink street.

Cool spot

It’s very lively at night, not so much during the day time. The bars and restaurants near by are very inviting. Wasn’t super impressed, but I still enjoyed seeing the unique spot!

A short street & that's it

If you want to waste your time in one evening and you have nothing else to do , this is the place to visit. Originally a painted pink street , now just a pale colour you could never guess it was pink, with 5- 6 bars one next to other and a relaxed atmosphere.
Nothing special, just the fame, reality beats the stories !
It deserves one star , but today I am generous :)

Originally a Pink painted street!
Dec 2019
Officially the pink street is named Rua Nova do Carvalho and is situated in the famous Cais do Sodre neighbourhood. This used to be the Red-Light District of Lisbon. In December 2011, Rua Nova do Carvalho in Cais do Sodré was painted in pink. It has created a dynamic, broad, opened and multi-purpose public space where people share and devour culture. The Pink Street is now called Rua Rosa in Portuguese.

Based on the purpose of visit you need to choose your visiting time. If you would like to take some great pictures, then you need to go in the morning. The street is so quite in the morning that it is the perfect time to get some pretty cool pictures. If you want to enjoy the nightlife in Lisbon, be sure to visit the pink street at night and try out some great bars and clubs. Cais do Sodre is one of the most popular neighbourhoods for the best nightlife. The New York Times has made The Pink Street one of Europe's 12 favourite avenues. It is a spot that draws locals and tourists who stay out drinking or partying until dawn.

To go to the pink street, I took 28E tram and stopped near the Elevador da Bica then took the funicular to go down, and from there the pink street is just 7 minutes by walk. So nearby the pink street you will find hot spots like Mercado da Ribeira/TimeOut Market, Elevador da Bica and Rua Augusta’s Arch on Praça do Comércio.
