Neighborhood: Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

Quaint shop, owner was informative, good selection
Quaint shop, family run with extensive range of canned fish at reasonable price. A lovely experience speaking with a member of the family who started the shop in 1930 and run it with great prude. The wrapping and packaging is a reminder of how shopping was in the past.

You want Portugal canned sardines, you gotta buy here.
Yes it is cheaper than the rest, but the quality outshines the others. The transaction can be tricky - it is the first store to sell canned sardines in Portugal since 1930, they know what they are selling and they are right down to business. You don’t walk in and post like insta-model without respecting the owner first. And to order, please do your homework before entering. While they may not have some listed in their website, they have a lot others not in it. If you ponder over their list at the counter, you might be ignored after few min because they are the traditional shop operating the traditional way, they entertain questions but don’t bait them. I saw a couple deliberating for 5 min and the owner just looked at me for order. I actually had my order scripted in my mind but I did had a bit of trouble picking the marinates/sauce for each can. Well, the owner did gave me a smile after that, I guess it was all good.

    Best place for Sardines
What a great family run business. The owner spoke English which made it easy for me to communicate what o wanted. He also gave me some suggestions and do me what to do with something I bought. No fancy packaging but less then the other places

Man, the Portuguese do love their sardines. And with good reason. The tinned sardines are spectacular. Actually, all the fish varieties this shop stocks are terrific. And there are a LOT of varieties prepared in a multitude of ways. I love tinned fish. Obviously, because I ended up spending over a hundred euros here. I'll be happily munching on fish for weeks to come. By the way, it's no problem taking fish out of the country as long as it's in your checked-in luggage. If it's in your carry on, Portuguese Customs will confiscate it. Why that should make a difference is beyond me. Either way the tins would end up on the plane. If it's in the hold, or in an overhead bin, who cares? Anyway, forewarned is forearmed.

We stumbled upon this shop while walking towards Bairro Alto. It was a beautiful shop with many canned fish choices. The vendors were warm and very helpful. We ended buying a few cans; however, the security at the airport took them away from our carry-ons. We were so sad...please, make sure to put your cans in your checked-in luggage. We are allowed to bring them back as they are cans, but only in checked baggage.

I too was lured into this tiny shop by the press coverage and reviews. From what I saw, this shop seems to thrive on American and European tourists buying tinned seafood as souvenirs. I bought several tins each of sardines, octopus, cod, cod roe, sardine roe, smoked eel, and tuna. So far I've tried all but the cod roe. Sadly, the quality ranged from poor to only so-so. Sardines, tuna, and eel were fine, but no better than the supermarket variety. Codfish was super salty and also had an odd flavor - I ended up chucking it. Octopus was poorly cleaned and contained a lot of grit. The best thing about these tins are the packaging. They are cute indeed.

Sardines are very popular in Lisbon, especially canned. This shop, the best place to buy them. Assortiment here is really wide.

We walked in thinking this was a confection store. Who would have think it! This very colorful store turned out to be canned fish store, and was a great place to purchase gifts that were true representations of our visit to Portugal. When we returned to The States, I never dreamed that canned fish would be the most appreciated gift of all.

We just wandered into this shop while looking for a Port tasting in the area. Incredible selection of canned fish which we bought to add to our gift baskets for friends.

The store is quirky and has various tinned fishes. However the staff were unfriendly ad rude and that spoiled my mood a bit. Wish I had gone somewhere else.

Its a place you have to go and buy some of their delicious cans. We bought all the spicy ones and they are great. The place was pretty crowded on a Monday, maybe because Sunday is closed. They also have a shop in Timeout Market, but I suggest to visit the one in the towns center.
