If there is a priority line, you're in it.She knows all the tricks of getting around, where to park, pick you up, where to go. She knows her history.....names, dates everything you want in a guide.... More

This was our first trip to Lisbon. We'd used guides before for trips to Rome and Ireland and liked doing a tour to 'get oriented'. But we wanted a more personalize tour this time, since we brought our teenager and wanted to be sure she'd enjoy learning about the city. Catia was very helpful when I asked about a personalized... We toured with Catia Luis for two days and learned more about Portuguese history than we could have ever hope. We started at the Monastery of Jeronimos. Catia really made the Monastery come alive with her commentary and was able to answer any questions we asked. Of course we had to stop for the famous custard tart, which is worth... More

Our guide Catia Luis was most acommodating in arranging for our desire to visit a fish market in Cascais along with a visit of the surrounding countryside. A wonderful three hour seaside lunch at Restaurant Adraga near Colares gave us four retirees from the USA a chance to learn as much as possible about about life in Portugal from Catia.... More

We decided on a last minute trip to Portugal and after reading the great reviews about Lisbon Stories decided to try and book a tour with Catia. Catia was very quick to respond back to us. Unfortunately she was already booked for the day we had in mind, but was very helpful with suggestions about the itinerary and offered another... More

Thank you so much for your wonderful words. Silvia told me what a pleasure it was to tour with you and share your fascination for gardens and the landscape you admired during that day. Please let us know next time you come to Portugal as hopefully I may be available. Best wishes, Catia More

We had an absolutely wonderful day exploring Lisbon and Sintra with Catia. We had never booked a private tour before but it was well worth it. Catia picked us up near our hotel and away we went. Our first stop was in Sintra. Before visiting a historic manor house and gardens we strolled along one of the quaint streets in... More

What a great time to explore new places I have never been to before. It was my first time in Portugal; but also the first time to have a private tour. I loved that Catia is very friendly and easy to get along with. She is knowledgeable about her native country. My favorite part of the day was exploring the... More

There is no better way to enjoy Lisbon and it's surroundings, like Sintra and Cascais, than a tour with Catia from Lisbon Stories. By booking a private tour for our family of 4 adults we were able to choose places we wanted to see and she was very open to accommodating our requests. We chose to tour Quinta da Regaleira... More

We contacted Catia way before our trip to Lisbon at the recommendation of friends, and we are glad we did. She promptly answered all our questions and gave useful suggestions. She was however busy on the only day we could go to Sintra and Caiscais, but recommended Ines to be our guide. She was great, knowledgeable and personable, and we... More

Catia took us to Sintra and Calais and concluded with a private Fado serenade in the Alfama district..a memory I recount to friends today. Delightful day!

Thank you for your wonderful words. Also, thank you for giving us the chance to organize such a magical afternoon. I'll certainly never forget the echo of Fado music in the walls of our patio! All the best, Catia More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
