“YOU STILL HAVE TO WALK DOWN”

Inaugurated in October 2018, this escalator is a big help in climbing up towards the castle. The escalator entrance is next to a pharmacy and connects Praca Martim Moniz with Rua Marques de Ponte de Lima. It alleviates one section of stairs but there are still many more to navigate to reach the summit. Once at Rua Marques de Ponte de Lima it is about another 15 minute climb up stairs to reach the castelo.

“What are the operational hours of the escalator?”

The latest I used the escalator was 9:00pm on a weeknight. When I visited around 10:37 pm another weeknight, it was closed. There does not seem to be official information as to when this escalator is operational.
