The area
Address
Neighborhood: Belém
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.

These gardens were a bit scrappy but ok. Sitting in the edge of the river Tagus. Views are good. So it’s ok to spend 30 min here.

This is an open and pretty garden in the middle of Belem a short walk from so many major sites. Some nice water works, good landscaping and some places to sit and rest after standing on your feet at the sites.

If you're going to the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, right in front of it, you have the Vasco da Gama Garden. It's a big park, relaxed and clean.

After having coffee and a Belém pastry and before visiting either the monastery or the monument to the discovery the park is a great place to rest, relax, and recharge! Green grass, fantastic shade trees, park benches!!

Get yourself some McDonald's food at the nearby restaurant and find yourself a place to sit in the park. There are some benches of which a few are in the shade . There's not much to see here other than a Thai-type pagoda without benches, a statue of some sorts and a playground. There are some restaurants nearby.

This place is good for walking towards the monastery. It has great views of the monastery, lots of benches and a nice children's playground. The playground, however, needs maintenance. There are lots of broken parts and some loose screws showing on others.

We caught the tram to Belem and as my husband wasn't feeling well we sat in the park for a while. What a lovely place, away from the hustle and bustle of the sights this was an oasis of calm and shade. There is a taxi rank here and we caught one back to the hotel at a very reasonable rate of 6 euros.
