About Lisbon Van Tours
Lisbon Van Tours is a small Portuguese company dedicated to organizing tours, tourist trips and excursions to explore the national cultural heritage. It is an officially licensed travel and recreation agency. It is targeted at small tourist groups, and offers a customized service that includes itinerary organization, hotel reservation, transportation, as well as guided tours. Aimed at inbound tourism, Lisbon Van Tours seeks to offer great opportunities to gain insight into the Portuguese heritage, by focusing on the tourists’ personal interests, like history, art, nature, local traditions, and food, for instance, while simultaneously enjoying the relaxed environment of the local cultures. On the longer tours (more than one day), Lisbon Van Tours opts to stay in more traditional types of accommodation that are associated with the local history: hence, preferring to stay in small hotels, local manor-houses, palace like houses that have architectural value, and tourist lodgings located in rural or countryside areas. The itinerary and activity programmes are structured in a way to fully enjoy experience the journey and, at the same time, relax and learn.

Henrique was our guide for a delightful day designed around our specific interests and temporarily limited mobility. We visited Estoril ( where we learned "Casablanca" was filmed), Cascais, a mountain viewpoint in the Serra da Sintra National Park with spectacular views of the coastline, Sintra itself but briefly because of the crowds, and on the way home, the Queluz Palace. Our day was all the more interesting because with his extensive knowledge of Portuguese history Henrique was able to put everything we saw into a more comprehensive context. Regrettably we don't know Portuguese so his facility with foreign languages was a vital contributor to our enjoyment. The day was also a wonderful eating experience because of Henrique's familiarity with the region, including a morning espresso and traditional pastry at Cascais and delicious lunch at at a restaurant where we are pretty sure the other guests were entirely Portuguese. Without hesitation we thoroughly recommend taking tours with Henrique!

This tour was wonderful, taking us to places one might not normally visit around Lisbon. Traveling across the bridge to the Santuario Nacional de Christo Rei provided an up-close view of this impressive monument, but also a great panorama of Lisbon from across the river. The Arribida area revealed great vistas. Setubal was busy, on a Sunday afternoon but mostly with locals eating by the seaside restaurants (seemed to be few tourists!). The fresh fish at the restaurant was excellent - you picked your fish and then they grilled it to perfection. Also, the fish market in Setubal is a must see; lots of different types of seafood, busy with locals buying their Sunday dinner. The fort of Sao Filipe was impressive affording great views of Setubal and the bay. The Bacalhoa winery was also unique. Not only could you sample great wines, buy also see a very impressive art collection, all in the same place. Our guide Henrique was excellent!! He was very knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating to our needs. With prompt pick-up and drop off at our Lisbon hotel, this full day tour was very worthwhile and one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal.

We had a fabulous time on this excursion! These buildings are so rich with history. The guides speak several languages and are very welcoming. Our spot along the coast was Caba da Roca (western most point of Portugal)and it was breathtaking. It was quite windy but beautiful. Cute little café and gift shop there as well.
