We walked the route from Fatima(a couple of miles) during the cold and rainy Easter week and we were so glad we did. It is soo peaceful, a well paved walkway takes one through olive trees, wild flowers and 15 stations of the cross sponsored by Hungarian immigrants from the US. At one point along the way, one has the option of going on to the village where the children lived and seeing their homes and imagining how long they had to walk with their sheep to the sites of Mary’s apparition is truly awe inspiring . Along the path is another site where Mary appeared and another prayer house at the 14th and 15th stations. There are various bathroom facilities along the way and we could imagine walking this path every day for fun, for meditation, for enjoying nature if the weather is nice.

This is a beautiful, well-preserved and maintained site, easily worth 1-2 hours of your time.
Of course, it won’t mean much unless you read ahead about what happened here in 1916. Do your homework first. Even better, also plan to sit on one of the many shaded benches in the area and pray for a while.

It is a touching place , it is on the hill where Mary appeared in front if the three sheperd children in 1917. Pilgtimates coming from all over the world. It has a special meening for Hungarians because it was padre Kondor , a hungarian priest who has built the sanctuary from the money was given by hungarian refugees went mainly to the USA in 1956.
The garden is full with olive trees looks like Getsemane garden in Jerusalem. The chapel is decorated by the holy persons from the hungarian history .

This church is an easy walk from the homes of the children. You will also pass the site of the 5th apparition and if you follow the trail the site of the angel's visit before Our Lady.

This is a very nice walk from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima where you can pray the stations of the cross and then it culminates to the big crucifix with Mary and St.John.There is a very small chapel in the bottom but if you climb the stairs to the cross you can see the whole city...it’s a great photographic opportunity or just take it all in!

The path to the sanctuary is meant to be a quiet and reflective path. You will pass through olive groves and stations of the cross. It is peaceful and I would recommend planning to visit before or after the buses arrive (earlier morning or before dusk) so you can enjoy the walk in solitude.

Walk the Way of the Cross from the South Roundabout up through the olive groves and holm trees and visit the various sites where the children met the Angel of Portugal until you reach the summit of the hill and can stand beneath the Calvary and view the whole of the town spread out below. From here you are within walking distance of the village where the children were born and grew up. There is still family in the village related to those original shepherd children.

i visited fatima few times on a day trip .you need to stay at least 3 days to visit the place. This santuary is at the end of the way of the cross. To get there ,walk toward the round about where you have the statue of the children and their sheep or take the little train to that round about. the way of the cross starts there .do not forget to bring some water because you will be in the middle of nowhere about 2 hrs walk to do the way . a peaceful place
where you can pray and meditate. another way is staying on the little train until you reach the museum where the children lived. once there ask for direction. do not forget to visit the place where the angel appeared to the children
I you have read my review please say a pyer for me when you get there . god bless

Site is the end of the Stations of the Cross walk in Fatima - about 20-30 min walk from the beginning. Wear comfortable shoes. The small church underneath is beautiful inside its stained glass windows and beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary.

I've visited Fatima numerous times and one of the things I often do is the Stations of the Cross. The layout of the Stations of the Cross at Valinhos, Fatima allows you to really spend time in contemplative prayer as you look at the sculptures, quotes along the way and scenery as you walk at your own pace from station to station. The ground you walk on is mostly flat but there are winding pathways and a bit of a distance to cover, so wear comfortable shoes. You are also able to walk from the Santuario to this location if you wish. I usually do. When there are a lot of tour groups and pilgrims, you may also be able to join one of them as they do the Stations of the Cross. However, you may have to go on a faster pace with them. It is among the most serene encounters you can have if you happen to get to the place when there are not a lot of people there. You can enjoy the fresh air as you reflect on each station. During my most recent visit, the place is even more sparkling clean and spectacular as they continue preparing for the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady's Apparitions in Fatima in 2017. May you have an awesome and inspiring pilgrimage during your visit as I always do. Don't forget to try their pasteis de nata after finishing your Stations of the Cross. Have a blessed visit! God bless always :)

Quantas horas leva para fazer as 15 estações?

Hi this Easter I am going to be visiting Fatima for the first time, and I am so excited. Since I do not drive I will not be driving in Fatima. Can somebody please explain how to get from the Sanctuary of Fatima to Valinhos as I did read about this mini train, but not sure how this train function. When you get to these spots, does the train stop and give you time or else you have to wait for another train to go back to the sanctuary.

Tracey, I am sorry that I cannot answer your question because I was on a tour that provided all in country transportation. The Sanctuary is worth your time and I believe you will find it rewarding.
