This national shrine is the site where three young peasant shepherds spied a "lady brighter than the sun," which was, many believe, the first of six apparitions of the Virgin Mary in this region of Portugal.

A peaceful beautiful place to visit. We were lucky at Easter that it wasn't thronged so it was easy to get into the different places without long queues. We worth a visit.

The place is just different to all the churches. It seems to be living. When i came there were Rosary, quite few people praying. But for those who do not believe in God it is a good piece of history.

To me, this is one of the most powerful places in Portugal. It's so stunning and it is celebrating 100 years in 2017. Love the story and what it has to offer. Do some research before visiting, it will make the experience that much better!

As a Catholic, I have heard about Fatima since I was a child. Now in the 100th year since the appearance of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children, I got to visit. The structure commands the square. And it is a fitting burial site to the three visionaries. We visited late in the afternoon, the crowds were not bad... More

If you know the story of the three children of Fatima, you may have a completely different concept of what Fatima may look like. The main church where the children are buried is not handicapped accessible and the entire facility seems rather sterile. This seems like a much smaller version of the Vatican. There is a special section for those... More
