This huge modern church was completed in 2007 to accommodate the large numbers of pilgrims to Fatima. It's nothing like the older Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, located at the opposite end of the complex. From the outside, this church looks cold and sterile, but the interior is surprising for its huge size and sleek design. The basilica has seating for nearly 9,000 people and is awe-inspiring, especially upon first entering.

This church doesn't really look like one from the outside. It is also very simple and modern on the inside and at first glance it might look like a large auditorium. Nevertheless, I find this building impressive, just because it is so huge on the inside. When all the seats are full, it is sure to be a service with a great atmosphere.

This is the huge church on the other side of the Sanctuary from the main Basilica. It is a huge church that fits approx. 9000 and is used, we were told, when the weather is too cold or rainy to be outside. The Cathedral is modern and of course huge. There is a pretty gold, bronzea and white mosaic picture of the lamb of God, Mary, the children and several Saints, that is beautiful. A large crucifix is over the artwork and altar.

As many describe in the reviews is a place that transmits little, perhaps because in the square in front you feel strong emotions and then to enter here you are a little disappointed. It is a new building so on a modern style and with ample space I imagine created to give the opportunity to many people to attend Mass in case of rain. I would not advise against the visit but definitely do not expect the atmosphere that transmit the other places in the place.

I travelled across the ocean to attend mass in this mega church which has the atmoshphere of an auditorium. The crucifix has disturbing features, and the modern icons along the wall have a cartoonish, rather than a sacred, quality.
The exterior resembles an unidentified flying object; we walked around three quarters of the circular structure in order to find the entry door.
Outside of the basilica is a large brutalist cross made out of industrial steel. The corpus cannot be inferred to be Christ based on the shape; it borders on mockery and blashpemy.
This structure is an architetural embarrasment, and leads one to question what people of faith would allow this to be built.
I went to Fatima as part of a personal vow, and the traditional church across the square is beautiful, but this basilica where I fulfilled my Sunday obligation is not worth setting foot into.

When we saw it from distance I questioned what "bunker is built here" because of its concrete exterior. But going inside was - WOW! I saw many modern churches but this is something else - and I have to say I don't very much like modern churches. This Basilica is modern but beautiful, utterly functional with benches for around 9 thousand people. The only decoration inside is behind the altar which is magnificent golden/bronze mosaic. We entered from the side which is directly opposite the old (main) Basilica. It's also impressive, there is sound of running water, the wall is decorated with bronze plates with various images related to Catholic religion/Bible, the doors are huge and beautiful. Both me and my husband (who isn't religious person like I am) said this is beautiful. We have to congratulate the architects.

11 of our pilgrims visited this place in October. Such a massive, beautiful, impressive church. I was told that the person who was commissioned to built this place was from Italy. He did an awesome job to build this church. It can hold up to 9,000 people inside. Everything inside and outside the church has meaning to it. The crucifix inside (seems modern to me) showcased how beautiful this church is. The sound system created inside the church was designed so it won't have any echo during the mass. Anywhere you sit inside the church, you have a good view of the altar.

The shrine is a beautiful experience, which was not as difficult walking around as my husband and I had been told. We are both in our 70s and had no difficulty enjoying the Shrine. My one word of caution is to check the calendar before scheduling your visit. We visited on June 10 which happened to be a mass for a Portugal national holiday. It was difficult, if not impossible, to get into any of the buildings. If that is important to you then make sure you schedule appropriately.

The Basílica da Santíssima Trindade opposite the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary is the fourth largest church in the world. The temple was built in 2004-2007 in response to the demand of the huge pilgrimage movement. The construction was financed only with donations from pilgrims. The basilica has the shape of a circle with a diameter of 125 meters, vaulted without any point of support. Pope John Paul II blessed and donated the first stone for construction, a fragment of the marble tomb of St. Peter. The project was designed by Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis. The church was consecrated on October 12, 2007, on the 90th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions. A modern and very spacious basilica. A interior, with exceptional acoustics and great comfort for pilgrims.

Located across the huge square from the Sanctuary of Fatima (and the basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary). While this basilica is one of the largest churches in the world , it took only four years to built this modern rounded yet humble structure . It has a concert hall acoustics and holds almost 9000 seats .
Definitely a must-see

Hi, we are traveling by train from Porto to Lisban and want to stop over in Fatima for the day. Is there a storage locker for luggage?
