About
At only 100 feet wide, this small beach is a gem below the picturesque village of Azenhas do Mar—it's so small that it sometimes even disappears at high tide! It has a man-made ocean pool, that refills with seawater as the tide comes in. It’s also home to a popular fish restaurant just above the pool, where the lifeguards keep a lookout during the busier summer months. There are also a couple of viewpoints where you can get great views of the beach and the dramatic cliffs that surround it. Tours of Sintra often make a stop here for photos, too. – Tripadvisor

We are a Belgian couple loving Portugal a lot (we were expatriated in Cascais during 3 years). I am very sad to give a poor opinion on Azenhas do Mar for one reason which astonished me: we were around the natural swimming pool when, all at a sudden, the smell was extremely bad. It was on July 28, 2021 at about 4:30 pm when we saw sewage water coming out of a hole above the pool. It lasted a long time (we ran away after 10 min). This is just a shame as people were in the pool at that time. It looks like a valve has been opened just before high tide!!! Someone should claim about this. The terrace of the restaurant was impacted by the smell. People when out the terrace ... disgusted. Imagine the bacteria in the water !!!

The wildest experience, to see the Atlantic Ocean pounding against the coast to the city on the rocks.
The rocks are clearly marked by the forces of the sea, which can be seen in the fact that pieces of rock have been loosened everywhere.
There is a small beach where you can swim if you dare. Otherwise, a natural pool has been created where you can safely swim.

Brilliant staff, Ciprian and his colleagues were amazing but food, horrible! Highly priced and unseasoned.

You pay for the location. 3 people 140 € with 2 glass of wine only!

That’s mad expenfor Portugal.

The core of restaurant is a tasca l, they should stick to those price.

We were intending on stopping here, but we must have missed the road in and we were taken past and had no idea how to loop back and as it was getting dark and had to get back to our hotel, we decided to try to see Praia das Macas instead, which was magical. I can say that in the brief glimpse of the area on top of the rock there, it looked fabulous. We had hoped to get back that way to see it, but we were running so far behind on this trip it was impossible, but you can be sure it will be near or at the top of the list for our next trip to Sintra. I hope it will be soon.

We came here expecting a nice seashore and a view and were stunned by the majestic cliff and the lovely White House’s on a cliff top across from the viewpoint. What we thought would be a quick photo stop ended being a much longer stay. Definitely a must see place as you drive up or down the coast.

Our last evening in Portugal and we found one of the best restaurants we had during holiday. A heartly welcome by the staff, gorgeous food and afterwards a beautiful sunset at the nearby beach (Praia da Adraga). What can one want more?

In the end of September we stayed in Colares. In one of the days we did cliff walk from Colares to Praia dad Azenhas do Mar. Amazing views! The beach and town above looks spectacular. We didn’t swim on the beach. But walk was outstanding. Highly recommend!

We began our day with a stop in Azenhas do Mar. We stopped at the viewpoint on the south side of town where there was a little parking lot. Wow. Very impressive indeed. Its a short drive from Sintra, and on the way to the next incredible view point no matter which way you go. I wished we could have stopped in the evening here, the sunsets must be so very good. As you stand on the cliffs looking out over the Atlantic, you are struck with the majesty of the ocean. So blue, so far, so wide. It's a small town, but I've no doubt you will find good seafood as we have all up and down the Portuguese coast.

Just stunning views of the beaches & cliff’s. Praia das Azenhas do Mar is definitely worth visiting if in the region. It’s not too far from
Sintra so can easily be added onto your itinerary especially if you have a car.
