I, too, have only high praise for the people at Portugal Trails, especially Joao who always easily accommodated our changing desires as we finalized the 6th iteration of our itinerary. His hard work, professionalism and quick responses had us knowing it was a very personal trip to our desires. Sadly we are unable to travel due to COVID-19, but their refund policy was amazing and the others who contacted us to complete that were immediately accommodating and efficient (though we chose to pay some for all the work they did). We are excited about the plan we have in place and hold the vision for this trip in the future.

This was my first visit to Portugal and I wanted to experience it without any hassle or anxiety.
The people at Portugal Trails fit my requirements perfectly.
From the well planned itinerary ( which still was flexible enough for some personal explorations☺) to the excellent personal tour guides and the truly five star hotels that they chose, the trip fulfilled and went way beyond our expectations.
They arranged everything and it worked like a charm.
The preprogrammed GPS that they provided meant no long hassles with planning our drive but still allowed flexibility.
I would recommend their services to anyone who wants a great vacation in Portugal.

Portugal Trails was an excellent choice for us to partner with in planning our trip to Portugal. We were able to craft an itinerary together based on the locations we wanted to see coupled with their expertise and recommendations. This trip was over 2 years in the planning for us and we had to cancel the first time just before going because of Covid and travelling restrictions. We received a full refund and Portugal Trails took care of all the logistics with cancelling hotels and booked tours.
Catarina picked up our file late last year and redid the itinerary which included numerous changes along the way due to personal circumstances and she was very professional, friendly and communicated in a timely manner.
Portugal Trails took care of all the details such as booking hotels, rental car, guided tours, a Fado dinner, airport pick up and drop off. They provided us with a preloaded GPS set up day by day, and a detailed itinerary and guide book with additional suggestions that made the trip stress free.
Their choices of hotels, tour guides, restaurants, were superb. One of my daughters commented that one of her favourite memories of the trip was the breakfast options at each of the hotels selected.
I highly recommend anyone travelling to Portugal or Spain to contact Portugal Trails and allow them the opportunity to help plan with you a dream trip.

Portugal Trails offers a perfect blend of the advantages of independent travel with the convenience of local expertise and the peace of mind of a safety net. We had a pre-programmed GPS with options for each city including our pre-booked hotel, great restaurant choices, interesting sites and, in many places, convenient municipal parking lots so we did not spend a lot of time hunting for a place to park. We worked out our 2-week itinerary in advance with our patient and knowledgeable travel consultant, Cristina Chagas, who delivered a flawless product and was available instantly by phone and text for the only time we needed a little extra help to find a Porto winery. A driver met us at the airport with the GPS, a customized road book with information for each day, a bound travel guide and even a supply of Covid test kits required at the time by hotels and restaurants on weekends. We got to experience the top sites with private guides and tours that left ample time in each city to just wander about and drink in the local ambiance (and coffee or wine depending on time of day) Cristina arranged for a cooking class in a local home and even timed a local boat tour for us in Portimao at low tide so we could visit the spectacular grottos. High marks all around for Portugal, Portugal Trails and Cristina.

I used Portugal Trails for a three week trip in October-November 2021,.......and I unconditionally recommend their program. This was my first time to Portugal, and their guidance, guides, and trip planning was wonderful. They crafted an itinerary that exactly matched what I was looking for, they booked me into perfect hotels, and they provided guides who were very personable and exceptionally knowledgeable. Cristina who worked with me was very responsive,...I had a last minute airline problem and needed the first few days restructured to accommodate this problem....and she got it done seamlessly. I feel that using Portugal trails made my trip substantially easier and more rewarding.

I am an independent traveler who generally researches and books all of my travels myself. Beyond Porto or Lisbon, I wanted to explore central Portugal's villages and castles, something not viable unless you have a rental vehicle. Portugal Trails made it so easy and stress free. We discussed and agreed on the itinerary (18 days started in Porto, ended in Lisbon) as well as a number of private 2 - 4 hour guided tours with local guides in many of the cities and villages. Hiking and biking options outside the towns, too! Then, Portugal Trails reserved our rental vehicle and provided us with a pre-programmed gps to each place. A big stress reliever was that they even included where to park for each attraction! I highly recommend this company. The accommodations they recommended were top notch. And when in one of the towns, I preferred a different hotel, my request was granted even though they didn't usually work with that hotel. They also plan trips in Spain and if we return to visit Portugal or Spain, I'll use Portugal Trails again!

Portugal/Spain Trails offers several pre-planned itineraries as well as customized excursions. We chose to do a customized version, which they quickly designed for us and quoted us with a price within 48 hours. The quality of rooms and they're locations were superb, as well as the tours that they booked for us. We continuously heard from their tour suppliers and hotels how they were one of the best travel agencies to work with and it showed in the way we were treated at the hotels and tours. From the first time I called Ines, they were very prompt in getting back to me with info or returning my calls. We have done other driving tours before and this is definitely a good one. We will book another trip with them to Portugal soon.

A sincere thank you to Cristina and the team at Portugal Trails for arranging our unforgettable vacation. We travelled for 14 days, successfully relying on the pre-programmed GPS to guide us on an all encompassing trip all around the beautiful country.
Most notably: the communication (in English) was seamless as we needed multiple iterations planning the trip in the time of COVID; all of our 4 star hotels were in perfect locations to jump start our local walking tours; the GPS with custom programming for all of our destinations (even included where to park the car) made driving as stress-free as possible; FYI deviating from the pre-programmed locals was easy, and at times we did go off the itinerary.
Portugal Trails met or exceeded all of their promises, and for sure, we would not hesitate to recommend them.

Our trip to Portugal was orignally slated for May of 2020, but was derailed by the Covid pandemic. Planning for the trip commenced in early 2019 when I began working with Cristina Chagas. Cristina was incredible to work with throughout the extended life of our planning process. She was always responsive, diligent and extremely helpful. She is a huge asset for Portugal Trails!!
Our 14 day tour began in Porto and we traveled throughout the country working our way south to the Algarve and concluding in Lisbon. Everything about our trip was exceptional, highlighed by our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, Joaquim Fernandes, whose obvious mission was to please our group of 22 people to the best of his ability while concurrently providing extensive current and historical information about his native country of Portugal. Joaquim organized numerous lunches along the way that were both delicious and delightful, and he was always willing to make suggestions and recommendations about anything our group was curious about. Our bus driver, Rui, was also outstanding, and we always felt safe and relaxed in his capable and experienced hands.
All of our accomodations were tremendous, and we were fortunate to spend time in a variety of unique and historical venues such as the Vidago Palace and the Pousada Convento de Vila Viçosa. The luxurious Cascade Resort and Spa in Lagos was also a highlight of the trip!
In summation, Cristina and Portugal Trails went over and above what was expected to ensure that our trip was first class and a memory we would never forget. They succeeded in doing so, and i would highly recommend them to anyone thinking about touring Portugal.

I just want to tell you all how amazing these people are - we have worked all year with Cristina and her team to design the most amazing holiday...which we can't go on! they have been so accommodating rearranging things to suit 6 aging New Zealanders and their changing plans. Now we have had to cancel and they have returned all our money with no complaints or expectations. other providers have wanted to give use time limited credits or charge exorbitant "service Fees" to return only some of our money.
If you want to travel to Portugal, Spain or Italy - these are the people to go with. They are fantastic! Go Cristina!

We are thinking of buying a tour from Portugal Trials for a group of 13 over Christmas and New Years and they have given us a good price, itinerary.
The company want payment through PayPal or bank wire instead of through credit card and that bothers me. Was this other travelers experience as well?

We were skeptical but it all worked out. We paid pay pal with credit card. We were so pleased with the service and organized travel plan. The guides were first class too. Don't let the payment issue deter you from using this company.

Portugal Trails customize an itinerary for traveling in Portugal and Spain. There is no fee for their service. They will book and arrange lodging, tours, transfers, activities, car rental, restaurants etc. They are extremely helpful and accommodating to your needs and budget.

Can Portugal Tours provide only certain services, such as airport pick-up and drop-off, car delivery, and certain tours? Perhaps some hotel stays? I would like a little more self-planning, using AirBnB stays, but like the idea of some services.
