Rocks worked and formed by water...
We walked along the Atlantic coast, from Guincho to Cascais. Shortly before Cascais we passed the Boca do Inferno, already seen in several videos where high waves break on the rocks. But the Atlantic was absolutely calm and smooth, almost not a single wave perceptible at all. At first we were a bit depleted, but even without waves the rocks worked by the water fascinated us with the opening to the Atlantic! You can go quite far, almost down to the sea and look at the "mouth" from the front. On that day the waves at "us" at Praia do Guincho were much stormier and wilder. Maybe the waves here in winter are different, that would certainly be interesting? So we settled for the uniquely shaped rocks and the beautiful view of the sea...

Take your camera and have an ice cream after your stroll
30 minute walk from train station hugging the beach takes you to this impressive rock formation. Haven for photographers - loved the plaque that paid tribute to Aleister Crowley too. Very craggy and steep staircase down to main view point. While I agree with views on stalls, we just needed an ice-cream and a cold drink before heading back into town. Worth a visit.

    Meh
I knew in advance that this place is only special during storms, so I wasn't surprised that since the sea was calm when we were there, this was nothing spectacular. We had already been to other beaches in Portugal and so even though the water hitting the rocks was pretty, you can see the same thing at any other beach in Portugal and not have the same crowds. I would love to be there on a stormy day.

    Walk Better Than the Destination
Everyone comes here and it is a nice walk along the sea from the city. But once you get here you will find a fence that keeps you from getting too close to the rocks and the ultimate view of the cave below. And there are restaurants here plus a souvenir market. The walk was better than the destination.

    Nice Little Stop
We came across Boca do Inferno while taking a walk along the Cascais coast. We stopped for a few minutes to watch the water and take some pictures. It wasn’t that exciting, especially if you compare it to what we saw in the Algarve. It was ok but I wouldn’t make a trip just to see this.

    Nice stopover
You can reach the cliffs of Cascais very well on foot. There is a walkway/bike path. Nice walk along the coast. There is a small market by the cliffs. Only older locals have a stand here. If you need souvenirs, I would recommend buying here. Relaxed strolling, no aggressive sales behaviour. There is also a restaurant and two cafes.

After leaving Sintra our tour headed west reaching Portugal’s Atlantic coastline before following it south towards the estuary of the Tagus River. Just before the river reaches the ocean, we came across a natural wonder that has become a local attraction, the Boca Do Inferno or Hell Mouth.

Along this part of the coast there are either long beaches or massive cliffs that the waves crash against. At this point they have over the centuries carved out a deep chasm which the water enters and recedes from in an invigorating show. Several viewing platforms and walkways allow one to get fairly close to the chasm in relative safety.

As we were on a bus tour, we only made a brief stop here, but it was sufficient to thoroughly enjoy this natural wonder. As an added bonus we arrived at sunset and the always spectacular sunsets in this area made a great backdrop.

The Boca Do Inferno is easy to reach from Lisbon along the costal highway that runs west along the north bank of the Tagus Estuary towards the costal resort towns of Estoril and Cascais. There is ample free parking on the site, as well as restrooms and a small souvenir shop and snack bar.

Boca do Inferno is a sea cave not far from the city of Cascais. It is named after the loud noise caused by the waves rushing into the cave during high tide. The scenery along the coastline in this area is beautiful, and there are many nearby There are many strange-shaped black boulders and cliffs, which are perfect for overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or watching the sunset. It is one of the famous local attractions.

Boca do Inferno (the Mouth of Hell) is a mesmerizing place! This maritime attraction is located along the coast on the western edge of Cascais. Although still a fishing community, much of Cascais’ village charm has been replaced by hotels, restaurants, cafes, and fashionable shops. In the summer, the city is overcome with tourists from all over the world who are attracted to the weather, the beaches, the natural attractions, and the vibe.
The Mouth of Hell is what remains of an ancient cave that protrudes out towards the raw Atlantic Ocean in the form of an arch. When the ocean is calm, the strong waves move lazily through. But when the ocean is angry (or even just a little agitated), the tidal waves become oversized and crash up, into and through this space. You wouldn’t survive if you got caught up in it.

From the Cascais Marina, it is a mostly flat, easy walk which may take about 20-30 minutes. Along the walk there are spectacular ocean views. Hotels and homes line the opposite side of the road. There are also bicycle and pedestrian paths along this route. It’s also easily reachable by car with parking available at the site. You’ll also find a variety of small shops selling souvenirs, food, and gift items (most take cash only) as well as a couple of restaurants. There are public restrooms (marked WC) next to the parking lot.

What a shocking sight when you first lay my eyes on this sea cave. My imagination took me to a inferno world. As the waves crashing into the cave, sun shaken broke through the clouds form a shimmering surface

Located about 1km from Cascais, it's an easy walk (there's a flat path that hugs the coastline all the way from the marina). Leading up to the Boca do Inferno, there are a series of cliff faces and rock formations being battered by waves, which give you a taste of what's to come.

The Boca do Inferno itself is one of those curious naturally formed rock formations that couldn't have been hand-sculpted any better. It's effectively a lagoon with almost vertical rock faces surrounding it, save for an archway (the boca/mouth) at one end. This acts as a funnel for huge waves to come crashing into the lagoon, which creates a swirl of white water. We were mesmerised for 15 minutes, waiting for the next big wave to come crashing in, while marvelling at the birds that would swoop through the archway and perch just out of reach from the incoming waves.

If you wanted to sum up the power of the ocean in one place, the Boca is a pretty good candidate.

Very beautiful place! We went by train from Cais do Sodré and as soon as we arrived in Cascais we went straight on foot. As it is uphill I got a little tired and the quick stops to catch my breath had stunning views.
Beautiful and unforgettable place!

It’s a dramatic section o coastline. 🌊The panorama it’s dramatically but at the same time it’s fantastically.
The cliffs are so beautiful because they plunge directly in the Ocean. From up top you can see the weaves coming in hard and continuously hitting the cliffs. Such phenomenon creates an unending sound reverberating all the way up to the edge of the cliff.
There are also cafes at the Boca where you can get a snack and have a sit outside.
It’s a must see !!!

It is great to visit anytime, but if you manage to visit it at high tide and shaken waters, best. It is usual in winter. But even in summer may be impressive. The noise of the waves inside of the mouth is awesome. That is why I call it hell's throat and not hell's mouth..

Walked here from Cascais (about 20 mins). The Boca might be impressive in a storm, but when we visited, the water was still and there was nothing to see except lots of litter and too many people. The 'market' sells tourist tat.

Got dropped off here by an Uber. Nice spot for pictures by the ocean. There are cafes, shops and restaurants around. The restaurant Mar do Inferno was highly recommended but we weren’t hungry enough. We opted to grab gelados at one of the cafes and walked down the coast towards downtown Cascais. Its a nice walk on a nice day.
