This is a small interesting and in its own way, important, little museum. It is divided into galleries dealing with different aspects of marine life in and around Cascais. Two galleries that caught my interest were the section on underwater archaeology and the section on D Carlos (the reigning monarch at the time) who pioneered the development of oceanography. There is also a gallery explaining some of the history behind the fishing industry with some personal accounts of the hardships that involved and also the social unity that came from that. The building is next to the Paula Rega museum and the entrance fee is very cheap. Children will probably find things of interest too - such as the amazing fossils and underwater recordings of large fish etc.

I went with my family from Brazil and I liked it. I didn't know but it is worth visiting, It's an authentic lesson of Oceanography. It is a pleasant place to visit, which makes due honours to our king Don Carlos, a great lover of the MAR and all its mysteries. Let's say he was one of the great scholars of the secrets of the sea in the twentieth century. I will ⁇ come back, even because Cascai many other things worth visiting.

This museum is really good, it is packed with information in both Portugese and English. and has lots to do for children. It tells the life of the locals in Cascais as well as lots of scientific stuff. Very informative and educational. Plus its FREE! must visit.

We really enjoyed this fantastic local museum - there are some really touching stories about the lives of the people who lived and worked in Cascais as well as an intriguing display of fishing nets and pots, not to mention some fascinating preserved sea creatures from Dom Carlos' scientific maritime explorations in the 19th century. There is also a seciton on underwater archaeology, with some great finds from off of the coast of Cascais, including a very old wooden dog/wolf ship's figurehead and a coconut shell used to smuggle pepper from India! All in all, a nice varied museum which gives a sense of local history.

Much larger on the inside than it appeared, the Sea Museum told the story of the town of Cascais, with helpful and fascinating photos and stories about the fishing industry past and present. The museum is free, but be prepared to spend at least forty minutes there, as there is so much to see.

This is a very understated little place not far from the seafront near the old fort/marina area. Admission is free and it's just a wonderful exhibition - well worth the visit

I often come here with my kids so that they can check out models of several fish.
There is an interesting exibithion about King Charles oceanographic enterprises.
It's far from being a "must see"

On a cloudy day we popped in to this cheap 3 euro museum which gave an interesting insight into the maritime heritage of Cascais.
