- Maria L14 contributionsGreat beach! But beware: strange guy wants to be photographed naked (see description)A super beautiful beach! Clean and very beautiful. The sun sets in the sea. Toilets available. Guincho Bar is also highly recommended. But BEWARE: When we arrived at the end of the jetty through the dunes, a man asked us if we would take a photo of him. He then took off all his clothes for the photo and we felt harassed. If a man like that approaches you, turn him away immediately. The beach is still highly recommended.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 7, 2024
- jaybeeFLPalm Harbor, Florida3,463 contributionsChanged ForeverNice beach but the real draw is the surf which at certain times of the year can reach epic proportions attracting some of the world's top surfers! My wife used to live in Cascais in the early 60s and would often ride horses or spend time on this beach. The area is now significantly more developed with restaurants, several hotels and large residential developments. Oh well that's progress I guess!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 18, 2024
- jeff235Delta Junction, Alaska35 contributionsBeautiful BeachMy son and I rode mountain bikes from Cascais to the beach. Not too strenuous but we definitely had wind in our face. It took about 30 minutes. The beach itself is absolutely gorgeous. Hawaii type sand with nice waves. It was windy, but that kept the heat down. Did the obligatory dive into the water, and it was very cold. We didn’t stay too long and rode back to Cascais, and with the wind behind us made it back in no time.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 7, 2024
- sandramichel1273Nieder-Saulheim, Germany489 contributionsPraia do Guincho, a surf paradise and located right next to our hotel...The second great beach, close to our hotel and no less beautiful than the Praia de Cresmina. It is much longer and therefore also ideal for walking. Watching the surfers, enjoying the waves and just enjoying nature... Early in the morning you can see many surf students from the adjacent swamp school and from noon to evening rather the "professionals" who really know it! The sand and water make a very clean impression, you can feel very comfortable here and spend time...Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 26, 2024
- emilianoJesi, Italy174 contributionsStop in Praia do GuinchoWe made a stop at this typical surfing beach while admiring the view from above. Great view over the entire coastline. The wind was so strong that by creating piles of sand on the coastal road it Locked the circulation. To reach Cabo da Roca we had to go back and go through the internal roadsVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 17, 2024

It's lovely sandy beach which is very popular with all forms surfers because of the wind.
Roadside parking can be a problem at the weekends and during the summer. When approaching on the coast road from Cascais, park in the Mar do Guincho restaurant car park for only €2 a day
If leaving on the coast road heading east after about 1630 at the weekend or during the summer, there is usually a long queue for the first roundabout on entering Cascais. To avoid this, drive slightly past the beach (on your left) and take the junction to the right as you approach the wooded area. This takes you to Birre in the northern part of Cascais, and the start of the A5 motorway.

Unreal beach experience. Well worth the trip! The beach bar was excellent. Bike rental in Cascáis on our day trip from Lisbon was less than ideal, however. We didn’t understand that the bikes must be returned before 7 and had to hustle our beach cruisers 6 miles back to Cascáis to beat the clock. The bike shop staff didn’t do a good job of informing us about the situation. DONT use beach cruisers for this ride. Mountain bikes are best for the ride from Cascáis to Guincho. Umbrella rental at Guincho beach was also more expensive than expected. The wind at Guincho was perfect when we went in late June. The surfers were not thrilled with the lack of wind but it was great for lounging on the sand.

I'm from the east coast of the US and have only seen the Atlantic Ocean from there. This was a cool experience, to see and wade into the water of the Atlantic Ocean from the other side - from Guincho Beach.
I visited on a chilly day in April after a side trip to Sintra. Barely anyone was around but the waves crashing against the shore made me feel calm. Beautiful place and worth a visit.

This beach is very unpredictable because the weather is also unpredictable. We can have wind and a sea with a lot of swell in the morning and in the afternoon it is phenomenally hot and the sea is calm. Here is where I feel the Atlantic Ocean and where I feel zen with Nature.🌊⛱️☀️

Can't beat this beach only 40-50 minutes from Lisbon by train/Uber (less time if you drive). It's just far enough to avoid huge crowds in a heat wave (we went on a 95F+ day), and it is a dramatic, beautiful beach with great waves and small waves alike, pristine sand. Only downside is there are no public restrooms (contrary to what some beach review sites say). Highly recommend!

If you don't surf, there is not much you can do, unless you want sand all over you. It's very windy and the sand stings your skin all over your body. It's not worth it and definitely won't return here. It offers a great view when going down to the beach, but that's about it.

We made a quick stop here after visiting Sintra and the beach seemed really nice. It is popular mostly for surfing as it can get quite windy here. Not sure if it would be as enjoyable for swimming given the wind, but the views were quite nice and relaxing.

The scene is so breath taking, large waves, people parasailing and walking along the beach on the walking path. Nice place to stop and have a cup of coffee and lite lunch. Watch a beautiful sunset over the beach with a glass of wine.

I hate crowds. Don’t go here. I want it to myself. There are sea monsters and giant squids that will grab random people and eat them. Please stay away.

This is one of the best beaches of Portugal! The beach is very big, surrounded by nature, well connected by public transport and you can surf as well! Right there at the beach you have the possibility to rent the surfing equipment and even to have a surfing lesson. Near the beach there is also a restaurant, a hotel and a bar with swimming pool. The bar is pretty expensive in comparison with the average prices in Portugal, but it has an amazing view over the Ocean!

On our drive to Fort do Guincho this August 12, we decided to follow your route through Sintra. It seems you took the route through the Sintra-Cascias Park reserve there... ? Do you have any advice? If you can share anymore information about sites along the way, we are interested shops, sites, culture, food, music, etc! Thank you so much!

Hello,
I went with my school, went to Sintra Palace which was absolutely amazing to say the least and so many restaurants there to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. Bear in mind there are some queues for certain places like the Palace or the gardens. There is also a puppet show for kids in the Palace, my students loved it! And a Shakespeare show too in the same place which was very funny.
On the way back we stopped at the famous bakery in Belem called Pasteis de Belem for their famous Pastel de nata, please try! and then we went to the local restaurant O Prado, brilliant and so cheap. Seafood is their speciality and snails! Honestly you need to go there because not only is the price cheap but for the same food elsewhere i.e tourist restaurant, the price is VERY expensive.
We stayed in Cascais for 7 days, the town is beautiful, loads of lovely restaurants, traditional bars and the beach is perfect or paddle boarding and going on small boat cruises.
We also went hiking, via the most western point of Europe which is in Cabo de roca, the trails there are really good although I would get maybe a guide as the one we went on, was a little tricky for my students! Also for shopping for food, go to Jumbo, its huge and cheap especially the White Port, please make sure you buy this, it is amazing!
We went on a boat trip to see the dolphins, and wow it was amazing to see them in their natural habitat. The food on the boat was first class as well getting to swim in the water too. SaboArrabida was the boats name.
We also went surfing at the main beach called Guincho beach, brilliant beach for kids, the waves are awesome but cold!
I love Portugal! Visit the statue of Christ too, if not only for the views!
Hope I have helped a little!

Tem banheiros na orla? Como funcionam? Is there toilets on border?
Written April 22, 2018
Don't know, but next to Guincho Beach (only a short walk) is Cresmina Beach. There are public toilets; opposite the surfboard lofts. You have to pay a small amount for the (cleaning)service (€ 0,50).

what's the best way to go there from Lisbon?
Written August 1, 2017
Sorry I didn't see your question until now. If you have no car then I would get the train from Cais de sodre station to caiscais , and then get a taxi. Taxi should be around 12 euro and the train is about 3 or 4 euro I think. Train takes 40 mins and taxi will take about 15.

Ciao a tutti!
Potete per favore dirmi se la spiaggia è collegata da mezzi pubblici? Come posso raggiungerla?
Grazie!

Ho chiesto lo stesso ma ho appena letto che c'è un treno per cascais da lisbona. e penso che da lì poi sia facile.

Thanks

You have a Michelin starred restaurant called Furna do Guincho but we didn't eat there. Any restaurant by the seaside in Cascais offers excellent sea food.
At Praia do Guincho we liked the Bar do Guincho where they have excellent hamburgers and a surprising fish kebab. But i LOVED their Pica-pau meat dish!
you can see their meals on their website bardoguincho.pt

In particular, try the restaurant at Estalagem do Forte Muchaxo or Fortelza do Guincho. This latter place has the Michelin star, but for lunch is not OTT
