We enjoyed this sweet museum, set in the historic city hall. It has good displays on local history, including a lot of information about the evolution of tourism. Both in Portuguese as well as in English. Some interesting use of multi-media. Free.

The building that houses the town hall of Cascais, Camara Municipial, was built in the 18th century, even before the earthquake and expanded in 1821. In the square, in front of the town hall, there is a statue of Peter I, the last ruler of the Burgundian dynasty. The building has an interesting architecture with a facade facing the square and the beach of Cascais. Beautiful building also holds an interesting town museum. The museum of the city is super interesting, interactive and free. Historic building, very beautiful, in the central part of Cascais.

Excellent museum near to Cascais waterfront. Surprisingly spacious exhibits that run chronologically inclusive of primitive times. Romans, Moors, the Tsunami, World war 2, and from fishing village to present day resort, all in the context of wider Portuguese history. I particularly enjoyed the presentation on famous people who had visited or resided in Cascais and music through the ages.....and it's free! Well worth 1/2 Hour of your time.

If you have a full day in Cascais, the Town Hall is really worth visiting. Inside, is a small but excellent museum which gives a history of Cascais up to modern times. Entry is free and it doesn't take long (30-60min). It is very modern, with clean white spaces and the just the right amount of information to tell the story of Cascais (information is in Portugese and English).
I found the story of its Cindarella-like transformation from a fishing village to a swanky resort-town in the 1870s, when King Luís I and his family made this their holiday retreat, the most interesting part.
The town hall itself, is an attractive building and was once the Palace of the Counts of Guarda. Several large, colourful tiled panels feature on the upper façade, each one showing a different saint - St Anthony, St Mark, St John and St Luke. It’s located opposite Ribeira Beach, about 5 min walk from the train, so it’s very easy to get to.

The museum is free to enter and very informative about the area. Having said that the star for me is the tilework on the outside of the town hall

This is a most picturesque town hall in a lovely square. Not the biggest of buildings but the tiles on the outside of the building are really spectacular

This is the town hall and I came here for the terrific museum of the history of the city and the region. I had been here before but I learned more this time. All the displays have English language and some are very clever. Great old photos. And it is free.

This Municipal hall lies in a beautiful square. It's the old centre of Cascais. I always find old buildings fascinating. When I was there, there was a mens choir singing just outside the building.
