This is a wonderfully striking plaza in the centre of Cascais. The best part is the distinctive black and white wavy paving that makes you feel almost dizzy.
The plaza is only a 5 min walk from the train station and you’ll find Information Centre here too, making it a is a very good starting point for exploring Cascais on foot. Ribeira Beach is directly opposite the plaza and the citadel is just up the hill above the beach. Most other tourist attractions can be reached within a minute or two from here.
The plaza itself has a number of points of interest:
* the pastel yellow Our Lady of Navigators Church
* O’Neills Irish pub.
* the large, bronze statue of King Pedro I, who was known as both Pedro the Just and Pedro the Cruel. Perhaps he was just one of those guys you either loved or hated?
* the town hall, a former palace with colourful tiled panels of different saints
* free museum inside the town hall that tells the story of Cascais, from fishing village to royal seaside resort to modern times. . If you have extra time, this is worth a visit.
* the name of the square commemorates the date in 1910 when the monarchy was abolished and the First Republic of Portugal was established.

Nice square for a walk by the sea. The atmosphere is nice even when we walked there in November. It would be better on summertime.

This square is the central place of Cascais. The square is paved with Portuguese wavy pattern and a statue of the king Pedro I in the middle. The king has nicknames as the Just or the Cruel. Buildings are interesting because of the architecture and here are some of the city's key municipal buildings. Just across the street you'll find the centrally located beach "Praia Ribeira". The name of the square refers to the 5 October 1910 revolution, the overthrowing of the centuries-old Portuguese Monarchy.

The cobblestones in the pattern that they are laid is an optical illusion, you have to experience it for yourself. It is as though they 3-D are rolling waves! This is a sparkling clean and well maintained area with an underground parking lot across from the beach. The police station is nearby.

Very picturesque square across from the beach and next to hotel Baia. Some great buildings especially the town hall and a super mosaic pavement.

Ignore the Irish bars if you can and focus on the architecture, with some key municipal buildings and winding streets leading off and up into other corners of the old part of town. The tourist information centre doubles as a gift shop selling some quality local souvenirs.

We walked through this pretty square many times during our visit because it is so central to tourist attractions and to food and drink. Lots of restaurants and cafes here and it is very close to the bay. Traffic at one end.
