Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.

Love this urban winery! Just a few minutes walk from the iconic Pasteis de Belem, Jeronimos Monastery and the MAAT museum we highly recommend making time for a visit. Not over touristy and mass market, the friendly and super knowledgeable owners use locally produced grapes to personally produce and bottle excellent wines on site. They offer tours and tastings in a variety of languages, complete with traditional snacks. Well worth it!

We attended the “Sextas na Adega” (Fridays at the Winery) event on Friday evening, and it was a wonderful experience. David and Catarina, the winery owners and creators, are great hosts, and they make this event and the visit to the winery very enjoyable, informative, and fun at the same time. The wines were spectacular, and so were the “petiscos” (snacks) that went with it. All locally sourced products, starting of course from the delicious wines. David and Catarina have their hands and expertise literally in all the steps of the wine-making process, from the selection and harvesting of grapes up to the sealing of the bottles!

We highly recommend visiting this urban winery, perfectly located at walking distance from Belem’s other major attractions. Take it as an occasion to relax, sip excellent wines and learn about them, and spend time in the nice company of the creators of this innovative project. David and Catarina are fluent in several languages (among which Portuguese, English, French, and German), and you may leave the winery not only with good wine ;) but also with unique insights on the area and on life in Lisbon and Portugal more broadly!

Look forward to visiting again very soon, cheers!!

Wonderful, creatively decorated place, with salvaged materials from an ancient car workshop, side to side with contemporary design and high-tech winery stuff, in a an impossible location. Like, this is bona fide winery, doing everything from grapes to materly crafted wines, next door to the most concentrated world heritage place in Portugal, across the street from the nicest stretch of waterfront in Lisbon. The place is owned by a young beautiful couple, and their love for wine making is as vibrant and obvious as their love for life, as reflected by the stories they have to tell about how they came to a specific combination of grapes for a specific wine, or how they named them, or all the love they put in building and decorating the place, a true inspiring and uplifting environment. Ah, did I mention the wines are really great? The "Unicornio" white is one of the most unique wines I had in a very long while. And the Friday late afternoon events a great socializing experiencing of wines (and various other delicacies).

On a trip already filled with many delightful experiences, I happened upon this adorable winery in the heart of Belém almost by accident. I had been searching for wines that utilized locally sourced fruit, were crafted in knowledgeable, interesting and surprising ways, and where you could meet and get to know the winemakers. Catarina was not only a knowledgeable and informative host, her passion, humor, and generosity made me feel instantly welcome. The tasting demonstrated a wide range of techniques, flavor profiles, and care for the product, and more importantly the wine was just really, really thoughtful and well-made. I’m very grateful for the experience - and the wine - and I am excited to have some fantastic bottles to share with friends and family back home. My congratulations and thanks to both Catarina and David for creating Adega Belém and for sharing their passion and product with us! This truly is a ‘must do’ anytime you are in the Lisbon area.

Adega Belém Urban Winery is a hidden gem: the location is away from the most obvious tourist track, but you should really make the time to go there. The Adega is the brainchild of Catarina and David, a young, entrepreneurial and creative couple who produce really interesting wines! But what makes this visit different from other adegas is the fact that Catarina and David are fully hands on in this creation: from the vineyards where Catarina (a biologist and a trained enologist) and David (a trained anthropologist with work on tourism and extensive knowledge on wine, and now wine producer) monitor all the stages of the growth cycle (in fact, they had been grape picking the day of our visit, and the following day they were back in the vineyards by 7am to continue the work!)
As you might expect, the visit to this Adega and the interaction with Catarina and/or David will be one where the intimate knowledge and personal connection to the wines created (and that you can taste there) is well above a commercial venture: it is a matter of the heart.
A lot of what is in this winery came from the actual hands of Catarina and David (the cooling system was installed by them); the decoration of the entrance wall is full of the car mechanic tools they found once they bought this property (an old car mechanics garage) to turn it into this winery (and pls go and use the wash basin design and made by them). There is a bar and a seating area with books for visitors to browse if they so wish; available also some cheeses and cold meats to go with the wine tasting. (Other planned activities are not possible, COVID19 oblige)
Thus, for instance, if you are in btw visiting the MAAT and the National Coach museum, really do swing by Adega de Belém (5minutes walking distance from both musiems) for a great wine tasting and really hearth warming experience: to learn about and to taste the wines created by Catarina and David. This winery and its wines are truly a matter of palate, nose and the hard working determination of Catarina and David, but also a matter of the heart as the label that features of the the couple’s daughters unicorn drawing testifies to. Supplying a real insight into a real and modern Portugal, the visit to this winery is a must! We left with much more than the wine we bought, thanks to Catarina’s and David’s enthusiasm for their wines. And we wishing them all the best in their wine production career!

A unique experience in Belém! Unlike other wineries, here you get to look 'behind the scenes' of what actually happens before wine gets bottled. The joyful couple that host this winery are happy to guide you around and answer every question you can think about. We were quite late to visit, but this meant no problem. We were welcomed with open arms. Oh and yes, the wine is delicious! You can taste that it's not at all industrial and was made with patience and passion! I would certainly recommend!

A nice little family run winery. The bottles are so cute with artwork from their children. The wines are nicely done and really were a delight. Glad we stumbled upon this little place. Also Lilly the dog was so welcome!

This is a real winery right next to the main attractions in Belém where the owners produce 7 wines that we all loved! The actual winery is behind the tasting room which is accessible from the street. The owners are super friendly, speak several language and offer also small cheese and meat tapas. The cellar tours are currently suspended, because of COVID, but from what we saw promise a fantastic experience. A must go when you visit Belém!

I went with a friend that came to visit me in Portugal. Catarina and David were great hosts. We had the chance to try 5 different wines. It was a great experience, I definitely recommend to do it. We also met Lili and she is such a cute doggie.

A hidden gem off the main road into Belem. A warm welcome and friendly owners are there to greet you. Both very passionate about wine making. Enjoyed learning about the whole process of wine making in an urban winery. Both owners were very knowledgeable and informative and made the tasting an enjoyable experience. Only wish we had time to enjoy some wine outside on the decked area, next time!
