Busy place in the middle of all the Belem tourism. Pleasant enough with views of the major sites, but nothing special.

Great memorial to Vasco da Gama in a pleasant park. Close to the bus stop on your way to the Navigator monument. Honours the explorations of Vasco da Gama.

The huge 20th century statue in the center of the plaza has no historical markers. It honors a 16th century viceroy of India. The allegories around the base are fascinating. Benches on the perimeter are good for people-watching and recovering from waiting in line to...More

This is a nice, pleasant and peaceful area. We walked through here with the Sandeman's Belem tour and were able to hear about the Afonso statue in detail as well as the history involved which also made the area much more interesting to us.

Impressive statue in front of the presidents palace. Set in a very nice garden and right next to coach museum. The first sight you see when alighting the train in Belem.

The square in front of the Belem Palace (today the presidential residence) is named after Alfonso de Albuquerque, the Portuguese naval commander and statesman whose bronze statue stands at the top of the beautiful Neo-Manueline style monument.

A pleasant park dedicated to Afonso de Alberqueque. His statue dominates the park although there is nothing to say that the monument is him. Shame, because most tourists think that it another Vasco da Gama statue.

There enough there to walk around and look - and we had thought about coming back for a lunch break but found the Tropical gardens near by. Its clean and nicely kept, and enough benches around.

The monument looks great in the garden but the grass and flowers in the garden needs special attention. Overall it's not as great as some other parks in other countries.
