We took two tours with GO! Walks Portugal in September:
1) Gastronomic Whims Tour:
We met our tour guide and owner of GO! Walks Portugal, Sara, at Largo da Portagem, conveniently located a short walk from our hotel. We did bring our umbrellas as it did start off a bit rainy but the weather improved along the way. We started our tour at Pastelaria Briosa where we learned about some of the local Coimbra pastries then got to try both sweet and savory pastries and some Portuguese fruit juices – all were delicious. Sara provided excellent Coimbra history and commentary around what we were seeing as we strolled through Coimbra between stops. We went to Coisas da Lena where we had an amazing selection of local jams with bread – pumpkin jam was the favorite! We ended our food tour at Fangas Maior where we had some local Coimbra beer and a wonderful selection of sausages, cheeses and breads – so much that we had to take some of it with us to go! I highly recommend booking this experience If you have a couple of hours and want to sample some of the local flavors of Coimbra.
2) Unesco World Heritage and University of Coimbra:
Our tour guide Milai met us at Largo da Portagem. She led us on a walking tour around the historical section of Coimbra, including a tour of the Santa Cruz Church. Milai did a great job of navigating us around a movie crew that was filming in one of the main squares that day. We walked through the narrow, winding streets and made our way up to the University of Coimbra. Again, Milai managed to navigate us around plenty of construction that was taking place around the University all while providing information and Coimbra history along the way. Our favorite part of the tour was getting to experience the Joanina Library - it is breathtaking and something you have to experience in person to fully appreciate. This is a perfect tour with GO! Walks Portugal for those looking to learn more about the history of Coimbra and the University.

Sara was well informed about the history and discovery of the Coninbraga Roman Ruins. She described how the structures we were seeing were used in daily life, including the indoor gardens and pools, the communal baths, the fortress walls and gates, and even the water and sewage systems. She knew details of the floor mosaics and frescoes and the artifacts found on site and in the museum. She gave us time to take photos and look at exhibits without rushing us. She also recommended restaurants in Coimbra and local attractions like the Fado concert we enjoyed.

I did a two-hour tour with Sara covering the University and a number of other interesting points in Coimbra’s historic center. Sara was exceptionally engaging and knowledgeable, and obviously enthusiastic about sharing her insights into her city’s fascinating history. I had wandered around some of the areas she covered by myself before the tour, but I was oblivious to many significant sites and learned a lot about even the ones I was aware of. I plan to return to Coimbra with my husband and take part in some of the other experiences she offers. I highly recommend GOwalksportugal.

With a marathon being run through the city centre, I was delayed with de tours, but I was relieved to see that the group had not departed without me. The guide was very good, giving a full description on a well defined route. She was pleasant and helpful all the time.

The tours from Gowalksportugal are not to be missed! Sara was an amazing guide. She customized a tour for Tomar for us including Almoural Castle. Our second set of tours with Sara were in Coimbra, University & Historical Highlights Tour, and the next day we had the Gastronomic Whims Tour. Sara is so knowledgeable, and her passion to share her knowledge is so appreciated. Something we might have missed ourselves and so grateful we did not was Sara's love and knowledge of the Fado of Coimbra. Another not to be missed.
The food tour was so much fun, and everything was delicious. We highly recommend choosing Gowalksportugal, you will not be disappointed by any tour. Thank you Sara!

Excellent tour with a first class guide. We were travelling by train from Porto to Lisbon after a river cruise on the Douro and stopped in Coimbra for the afternoon. We chose this tour because it stated on their website that they could store luggage during the tour. Coimbra is spectacular and we finished at the magnificent university library. Recommended without reservation

I did the fado tour + show at Casa Fado so Centro. Sara, the guide, was very informative and added great background to Coimbra's history and what makes its fado distinct. I got a lot of insight that I would not have gotten just from attending the show.

Enjoyed a truly great city walk with Sara during a hot day in Coimbra. She’s very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about this historic city. She also took the time to send us some info after the tour which we appreciated. Highly recommended.

We took a private walking tour of Coimbra with Sara - it was very informative and it was a pleasure spending a few hours with her. We toured parts of the town as well as the university and of course that amazing library. We would highly recommend taking a tour with her.

Our guide Sara was very knowledgeable about the city. The tour was very entertaining and you find out lots of things you wouldn't know if you were walking around without a guide. Got to see most of the main sites there was to see and hear the funny stories to go with them.

Hello! Yes, you can store your luggage with us. Stop by our office at Visconde da Luz Street, n°75, 1st floor (store n°10). It's the main street of the historical centre of Coimbra, very easy to find. We store luggage from 9h to 18h. See you then!
