When you approach it looks much like a cemetery, but the best translation of Penedo da Saudade would be Rock of Longing. It is where students leave stone tablets to their course year to commemorate their time spent at the University of Coimbra. It is possible to park at the top, near the statue of Joao de Deus, and then enter Penedo da Saudade, which is on a hill, and walk along the various pathways, viewing the stone tablets. You may well encounter some former students there to reminisce their time spent at the university. There are some very good views to be had over the south of the city.

One of the places I liked the most of the city of Coimbra. If a little bit far from the center of the city and you have a great view from this point. Very green and relaxing.

Sunset here is amazing, you will have a great view of the city. It's easy to get there by foot and is a great place to get to know more about the students that used to live in Coimbra.

Penedo da Saudade is the name of this relatively small garden that has good views over Coimbra. However, the views are not the main feature here, where it has become a tradition for students groups over the years to place plaques describing their enduring love for the University City. Some are over three hundred years old, others very recent. It makes for an interesting feature well worth seeking out

A little bit outside of town but worth the walk. If you visit the botanical garden this is only another 10 minutes walk. We visited on a cloudy Friday afternoon and there was no one there. Great for photos and to have time to translate some of the stones. You can keep going and going so don't turn around too soon. There is even a toilet on site.

sadly I went here on a rainy day so didn't had much time.
but the little we have seen was beautiful.
this garden has its name due to the students writing their songs and letters in the garden.
Also the garden provides a beautiful view to the city.
there is a passage which can take you close to the stadium and the shopping centre, good luck on finding it :)

A lovely small park located at the highest point in Coimbra.
The 100 meter climb is worth it.
Great views.
Full of stone placques celebrating university life.

Decided to explore this based on a suggestion from a local. It was a long walk for me to get there, but once I did, I was really glad I came. Come prepared with a translation app so you can understand what is written on the stones. The view is beautiful and the park is peaceful. It really only takes about half an hour to wander through, but is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Penedo da Saudade is a small "park" i would call it like that in the middle of the city.
Many people heard about it, but not many people been there.
It is worth the visit for a moment.
Great view for "Ponte Europa" and the other side of the city and also is a little lung in the city...trees and spaces to sit, good facilities (toilets)...
It is a place very connected to Coimbra Culture.
It has places called classrooms with poems written of old students of the city.
Its like going on time...go with someone who can translate because they are beautiful...
Go there for an hour or two...
