A unique experience in Coimbra. Not to be missed. Along with fantastic other historical sights. It's up the hill so wear comfortable shoes to navigate the cobblestone streets.

One of Coimbra's must see Baroque buildings, the University Library sits in the main courtyard and is home to some 300,000 leather-bound texts housed between three equisite gilded and painted chambers

Amazing collection of old books in a gorgeous well preserved library on a lovely campus. We walked right up and purchased the 3-venue ticket at 4 p.m. on a Wednesday in May. No queues and only a short wait for the timed entry to the...More

Even if you've seen pics of it, hold your breath when you enter this quintessential collection. It's like a treasure trove - literal golden - of books. I came to Coimbra for the university, and this is the highlight. So much so that when you...More

Beautiful old library, can't take pictures but magnificent inside, pity I don't think the students can study there. Part of a three destination ticket that is well worth it, chapel and palace included. Tough walk in the heat but it is a great sight the...More

This ticket required attraction is well worth the price of 12 Euros which includes a variety of other sights on the university campus including the old place, clock tower and chapel. The library houses over 40,000 books and is on 3 floors with the top...More

The Joanina Library is royalty among libraries in the world. Not only due to its books but also to the place itself. The structure of the library is amazing: no fumigation has ever been made there, because a family of bats lives there and takes...More

You should not have to pre book. Arrive earlier and look for the ticket office at the University entrance. The library is close to ticket office within the walls of the old university. As you certainly know, the... More
Hi, I've read that there is a long waiting line in order to get into the library. I tried to make a reservation via the official site of the library, but they indicated that they are making reservations only for guided tours. Is there any way to reserve the visit time or to avoid long hours of waiting? I really want to visit the library and I have only 1 day in Coimbra, so I'd like to make the best use of my time there. Thanks! Miri
