Aveiro's "Museu Arte Nova" is located at an iconic building - the "Casa do Major Pessoa" - facing the main canal of the "Ría de Aveiro". The "Art Noveau" construction is kept magnificently and is, indeed, extremely beautiful! Inside, not much to see: permanent and temporary exhibitions on its main subject - "Art Nouveau", plus a road map for a walking tour of some 28 other important "Art Nouveau" buildings in its vicinities. On the ground floor, in the rear patio, a "Tea House" completes the scene. Enjoy!

Beautiful Building. The Portuguese certainly knew & still know the art of decorating a building. Compare the austere Germanic approach; depressing!
This is the loveliest building we saw, second to the Railway Station, in Aveiro.
Pity it was closed.

It's a picturesque art nouveau house right by one of the canals in Aveiro and its façade draws your attention straight away.
The owners had an idea to make money and there's nothing wrong with it: call it a museum and charge 2 euros!
On the ground floor there's a nice café at day time and bar at night, also with a backdoor entrance.
Then the so-called museum on the other floors but it's nothing but a couple of nicely displayed items with elementary explanation, no depth or content at all.
Go have a coffee and eat a slice of cake, you can skip the 'museum'!

Came on train from Porto for the day to see the Art Noveau. Museum is completely closed with no notices to say when it reopens either on the building or website (which doesn't even say that it's closed!). Google maps also implies that it is open by giving opening times!

It will presumably reopen at some point but don't know how you can check if it is open before travelling.

Building looks fab from the outside so hopefully the work will be finished soon. Rating is because a simple update on the website and a sign outside would be helpful.

To visit this “Museu Arte Nova de Aveiro”, put the car into the underground car-park of the “Forum, cross the bridge with the statues, and go left, this museum is at about 100 meters from the bridge, so located in one of the most emblematic properties.
More than restoring the ornamental environment of an Art Nouveau house, this museum group treats Art Nouveau as a didactic argument, before ending the visit, you can go to the down floor for a short or long visit of the
tea house, at night it becomes one of the liveliest bars in the city, with live music on weekends.

I loved this museum as much for the building that it is in as for the (small) display. There is a film that is worth sitting through which puts the exhibition into historical context. There is also a great little cafe that serves a wide selection of tea and cake.

The building is a wonderful example of Art Nouveau, however there are almost no exhibits on show. One can watch a short film about the period and that's about it.

This is a curious tiny museum housed in the former residence of a local wealthy man who lived in many foreign countries and was a remarkable collector. The museum occupies the whole house, having miscelaneous contents but related to that Art Nouveau era, plus a small auditorium were videos are shown and a nice cafeteria in the back yard. The house has a graceful façade, being the house more remarkable than its contents, in my opinion at least. Tickets are cheap -the facilities are quite small- and combined with the Municipal Museum. One remarkable point is that this museum is located in an area dotted with many Art Nouveau buildings. As most of them are private houses, they aren´t really monumental, but cute of course they are, so the area deserves a pleasant stroll and some fotos, as it´s attractive for those who are into this type of art .
