The best thing to do to visit this and other location in walking distance is to leave your car into the underground and paying car park of the “Forum”, the “Capitania” is located on a privileged location on the Côjo Channel, in its original function, the building was a tidal mill, having been built in the 15th century, a time to which the arches supported on stilts over the waters of the channel. A few centuries later, around 1830, it would become a support building for the porcelain factory of José Ferreira Pinto Basto, founder of the renowned Vista Alegre. In 1903, Francisco Augusto da Silva Rocha renovated the building along the route that still remains today. And it was also the residence of the port captain, until 1992, the year of the construction of the new Port of Aveiro in Gafanha da Nazaré, and actually is serves as a gallery dedicated to temporary exhibitions.

Interesting old building that now seems to be an exhibition space. It contained an art exhibition when I visited. It also contained maps highlighting special interests so I got the Art Nouveau one (there were other topics)
