    Excellent museum experience
This is a very impressive museum for a relatively small town, but it befits the historic importance of Angra do Heroísmo. I went on a Sunday, and there are two things to recommend about a Sunday visit: a) the already modest admission is waived; and b) at 4:00 pm every Sunday (at least in high season) an organist performs a 30 minute recital on the wonderful pipe organ in the church that is part of the museum. There are good videos throughout, all with English subtitles, and you learn an impressive amount about Terceira and the Azores as a whole. I also especially enjoyed the room with information about the building where the museum is held, as it also contained two traditional Azorean "guitars" (they're not guitars, but similar), and there was very cool music where traditional music was blended with modern DJ beats. Definitely make time for this place when you visit Angra.

The Angra museum is a 'do not miss'...
Took the advice of so many here and visited the museum. Unfortunately, it was towards the end of the day, so a bit of a whirlwind. My mistake. Now I have to go back to take it all in properly. Spent two hours, and it wasn't nearly enough. Now, I LOVE museums. Always visit the local museums wherever I'm traveling. But even if you weren't a huge museum fan, this one is exceptional. A little bit of everything. Art. Culture. History. Beautiful building. And a cathedral that will drop you. Went back at 4PM the following Sunday (after a viola concert in the town hall) to take in the weekly pipe organ concert. Something not to be missed... I might even go back this Sunday, my last day on the island before heading home, to listen again. Long story short - the Angra museum is a 'do not miss'.

History of Angra and Terceira in beautiful setting
Having the history of Angra do Heroismo explained in a religious setting, with a visit to a lovely sanctuary as a part of the tour, fully conveyed the importance of religion in the culture of Terceira. Even apart from the religious aspect, however, the museum delivers an interesting and concise history of the island. The front desk staff was eager to be helpful, and even explained the periodic firework bangs that we had wondered about. Go to the Angra museum to find out for yourself!

I can’t recommend this place enough.
We spent a few hours there and enjoyed every moment.
All of the place is in English, except temporary exhibit on history of the building. Was monastery, seminary , now a museum.
It covers history of the Azores, 500 years which ties in to Europe and sea faring years , more recent culture, limited military history, recent major earthquake, cultural traditions such as embroidery trade, religion, jesuits, geology of island.
It’s all here.
And free on Sundays. Otherwise cheap 2 euros.
Spend some time here,

We were very surprised at how extensive their collection is. We spent almost three hours here and could have spent more time exploring. We were delighted by the organist who plays the church organ around 12:30 pm on the choir level of the church. Amazing artifacts and antiques in excellent condition. Definitely worth the two euro admission price !

First rate museum. Exceptional displays documenting the history and culture of the Azores. There’s a beautiful church inside the museum which was totally unexpected and one of the many highlights within the museum . Would highly recommend this museum to any visitors to the island, definitely a must see!

A number of local folks insisted we must visit this museum and they were quite right. Very well laid out in chronological fashion, giving a comprehensive history of Angra do Heroismo.
The entry fee - 1 euro - is ridiculously cheap for what we saw.

Very good indeed - 8/10 .Was a bit suspect at first but generally displays very good and the English information is good. Possibly the best museum I've visited so far in the Azores. Covers a large swathe of history that you may have missed in your visited to the other islands

I sound the museum to be ok but not great. A number of sights only have English signage. You could read the descriptions online via QR codes but it wasn’t very effective. It felt like you were reading Wikipedia. Some of the sights had English signage and some didn’t need it.

Admission is only €2 so I can’t complain about the cost. It’s worth a stop if you’re nearby but it’s not a “must see” IMO.

Very interesting. It doesn't take long to see everything in this museum. The staff is friendly however this is a self guided tour. You have to be fluent in either Portuguese or English to be able to read the descriptions of each display.
