I spent 12 days in Terceira and was guided by Hugo and Inês, managers at Gigante Expeditions. It was one of my most incredible trip ever!
During my stay they made me discover the islands of Terceira and Sao Jorge, by car, by feet and by boat. They both know the Açores very well and were very excited to show me around and tell me of the fauna, the flora and the marine wildlife.
There they showed me the most diverse and surprising landscapes ever: a curious mix of European and exotic trees and flowers, direct evidence of the plates tectonic (lava caves, vulcanoes, basalt beaches), and a meteorologic laboratory!
They both are good surfers and brought me to the best spots of Terceira. With their boat, Gigante, we fished (and caught an 18kg grouper!!!) and Hugo organised a two-days expedition to Sao Jorge. There he brought us to some of the best surf spots I have seen.
I'll sure come back!

Beautiful (and productive) fishing trip with very, very nice people. We caught several fishes using the traditional way, in a charming boat, and in the most amazing blue waters you can imagine. I'll see you again, Inês and Hugo...

This was absolutely perfect! Hugo and Inês made us fell so incredibly welcome and comfortable... We saw dolphins and wales, and we even caught the biggest barracuda ever! Best boat trip ever!

I went with Gigante into a day trip with my wife our 2 kids (8 and 5 years old). First, we looked for dolphins and after 30 minutes we were presented with an infinite flow of visitors, playing all sorts of tricks around the boat, swimming, diving, jumping all around with Cagarros and Seaguls flying low in the water. Looks like the dolphins were having a great time watching us as well! :)
Then we went closer to the coast and it was time to find some lunch. So, we got the line into the water and fished 3 nice barracudas while returning to the port. Once on shore, Hugo took care of the fish so it was ready to go to the grill after a few minutes for a delicious meal. Hugo and Inês are amazing hosts and really enjoy what they do. A truly amazing day that we recommend anyone to do, while in Terceira!

awesome boat very nice people we caught great 7 kilo barracuda and big triggerfish grey travail loads of 4 kilo barracudas and if we wanted we realised the catch free drinking water was available hole the family liked it

We were a group of 6 adults and a 9 year old child. Went for fishing and dolphin watching. The company is run by Ines and Hugo who are truly nature lovers and will receive you with a big smile! They took care of us as own family and told us about the fish, birds, island volcanic history and much more.
We fished 3 big tunas which we could take with us after Hugo cleaned and took out the fishbone. Then we went dolphin watching which was awesome to find a group of 15 dolphins playing along the boat waves.
The boat is big and safe, you have plenty of space in the front and back decks. We had an unforgettable day. The 9 year old child had lots of fun and loved the trip, Ines and Hugo took very well care of her and where very careful with the safety procedures.
By the way Ines and Hugo speak perfect English which was important as we were an international group!
Definitely recommended for a group of friends or an activity to the whole family.

A dream trip in a place of dream, with an extremely friendly couple with an aura of joy and positive energy that is contagious.
An experience out of this world, that connects us to nature in a simple but intense way, not only through what surrounds us but also by the knowledge they pass on. My kids loved it. Next year we are definitely there again. Thanks to Hugo, Inês and "Gigante Expeditions".

According to your stay in Terceira, we took you to the main places of the Island and next time, we will take you to new places where you didn´t had time to see when you were here. Your kids are great, we had a lot of fun too while you all were here!

Without doubt one of the best sea trips we have ever had.
A graceful crew, a charismatic boat, a formidable boat spirit of nature acceptance.
Our 11 year old daughter was thrilled with so many dolphins around us and to swim at the sea in a beautiful bay. It was fantastic to see her so happy and amazed with the experience of fishing such big fishes by herself. The crew (Hugo and Inês) knows how to make children learn and play at the same time the hard life on the sea, and as my daughter says "it was very educational".
The best crew posture to be at sea, presenting us with natural full observation of the following species:
Birds: Puffinus gravis, Calonectris diomedea, Larus michahellis, Sterna hirundo, Arenaria intrepes, Numenius phaeopus, Sterna dougallii?
Cetaceans: Delphinus delphis, Stenella frontalis, Stenella coeruleoalba?, Steno bredanensis?, Tursiops truncatus?
Capturing six fine specimens (the largest more than 5 kilos!!!) of: Sphyraena viridensis, on a traditional fishing experience.
The day was completed with grilled fish, a perfect communion with nature...

We booked this trip for our son who likes fishing. But we all loved it !! Ines and Hugo made us feel at home on their boat. We caught nice big fish, and there was always action on board. It was great to see how fascinated Hugo is about fishing, and how he explained us everything.thay both are perfect hosts. We had an unforgettable day on the Gigante.

Hello Minkes,
The Azores are famous for being one of the easiest and best whale watching spots! There are 25 species of whales and dolphins.
The best time of the year, depend on which species you would like to see.
You can see cetaceans during all year, but the weather may not be the most pleasant in the winter. During the Spring, April and May, are the strongest month for Fin Whales, Blue Whales and maybe Sei Whales.
We are not a whale watching company, but it is very common for us to have an encounter with the resident species also in the summer (Sperm Whale, Humpback Whale, Common Dolphins, Spotted Dolphins, Risso´s Dolphins, Fake Orcas, Pillot Whales,...) when we go out for a boat ride or for fishing!
It is always a surprise for us every time we have an encounter, that make´s every trip even more unique, special and unforgettable!!
