Angra (meaning “small love”) is a world heritage UNESCO site. Their Central square is surrounded by lovely hallmark manor houses, laneways and beautifully well-kept century old buildings The day we were there, the locals were preparing for a Festival to be held in the Main Square in a couple of days’ time being Forest Day and celebrating the 1st day of Spring.
Such a lovely little town to explore – make sure you head down to the “Gates of the City” beside the waterfront (Portas da Cidade) and checkout the Church of Mercy and also see the Vasco Da Gama statue.

Praca Velha (Old Square) is the central square of Angra, most of the busses go from here and end here (not all of them! check EVT.pt) the Rua Direita, kind of a main touristic promenade starts here and continues toward the sea where you'll find a church and Vasco da Gama statue. You definitely won't miss Praca Velha when coming to Angra :)

Praça Velha (former Praça da Restauração) is the central square of the city of Angra. There you can find the Town Hall with its imponent façade. The church of Nossa Senhora da Saúde and several old buildings.

Small square in front of the town hall. Nice pavement just like the rest of the city. Make sure to visit the town hall there (free). There is a nice garden nearby and you can climb all the way to the top of the hill and the view is amazing from there. Free concerts at weekends in December.

Many historic buildings face the square including the palace and the town hall. The gardens also have their entrance in one corner of the square. From here you can easily walk to much of the central historic part of the city.

The Praça Velha is just in front of the Town Hall. If you visit Angra you must go to Praça Velha and least take some photos to remember.

Saw Praça Velha every day from my hotel room and from the hotel deck. There was always something going on. The "Bandas de Rua" philharmonic bands playing, students protesting, students marching, senior citizens walking, and beer for one euro! Shops all around. The road in corbel stones, so shiny and clean... a must visit downtown.

Main Square of Angra do Heroísmo, located in the heart of the city, in the summer season there is a stage where there is some live concerts. Nice place to spend a couple of hours in evening.
