This square, old in name and history but not in appearance, is a crossroads for the main streets of Rua da Se and Rua Direita. It was already on a map drawn up around 1590 by the Dutch traveler and spy (this perfectly combined) Jan Huygen van Linschoten. However, the square doesn`t look old. The main building of the square is the town Hall built at the end of the XIX century, the other buildings are even later. Without any architectural frills. But the tile that paved the square is original. The intricate pattern creates a certain visual illusions. The square is the center of the city. From here, a bus leaves for Terceira, which you can wait in the cafes that overlook the square. In the evenings, it turns into a venue for concerts and performances, so it can be lively until midnight.

The public square, sits in the middle of the city (Angra do Heroismo), a place where you can just sit and relax, enjoy music concerts and other various happenings. There are many tables and chairs in the open air where you can sit and order something to eat and drink. open till late every night.
