About
Founded in 1904, Louvre Michaelense first opened its doors as a high-end hats & fabric shop directly imported from Paris. After a careful recovery of form and enhancing its charm and personality, Louvre reopened in the form of a grocery store. The shelves of the former headgear now display the best of Azorean and Portuguese Craft, offering the opportunity of bringing home a unique memory, surrounded by the art deco' of the Restaurant within the beautiful atmosphere.

Unique menu and interesting decor
Aug 2021 • Family
Restaurant with lots of interesting items on the shelves. Quite a small place so book in advance. The menu is limited but all the food we tried was delicious and very well presented. The menu is very different to other local restaurants so it was nice to mix things up. Nice drinks too. No kids menu but we still found something for our kids to try. It did get very warm despite all the windows being open. Service was good.

Perfect Gem

My friend and I arrived in Ponta Delgada during low season searching for fresh, authentic seafood. It seemed like the menus were all the same everywhere and unfortunately, the fish plates were all enormous and way overcooked on our first couple tries. That being said, maybe that's the common style here.

But imagine our relief when we discovered Louvre Michaelense! Inventive, delicious cuisine with just the right portions to gently nudge the limits of our stretchy pants. Shoutout to our sweet bartender/server Rodrigo whose creativity and love for cocktails is evident in all his carefully considered creations. We had the most amazing service thanks to him and his spot-on menu suggestions. Get everything: cocktails (with and sans alcohol), cheese plate, entrees, and desserts. You will not be disappointed. Take time also to peruse the cabinets of all the artisanal goodies on offer- I snagged some beautiful fish scale earrings that I'll treasure forever.

We ate here twice and would have again if we had longer in the Azores! Thanks for the wonderful food, hospitality and memories.

Terrible place
Jan 2020 • Couples
Well...after 10 minutes waiting for a member of staff I decide to try to call their attention but a big surprise for me when I saw three staff ignoring my presence after 5 minutes I decide to go to another place who cares more about having their doors open and appreciate customers.
Is ashamed that a place with an amazing decor like this has a terrible team working without any good supervision!
A word of advise to the managers, keep your staff aware about those mistakes or you will get your door shut. Summer is not big enough to keep doors open all year long...

We came in for light launch and found a wonderful special dish of the day ( red cabbage, pork, potatoes) and fresh salad. The apperol Spritz qas soooo good.
2nd time was at night, after a good dinner, looking for something sweet and good tea, and we found both. Orange Lemon tea and two nice cakes. The place has very nice decor, good music.amd wonderful friendly staff. The also present and sell different local are. May come again tomorrow 😉

Afternoon tea
Apr 2019 • Solo
Visited here for an afternoon tea during a day tip to the island on a cruise.
The local broken leaf tea, served with “ hot” milk, was lovely and the pineapple tart was light and delicious.
I bought some of the tea to bring home and also a miniature bottle of pineapple liquor.

Fabulous Cafe and Bar in Ponta Delgarda
Apr 2019 • Couples
Quirky and old world styled case in Ponta Delgarda, half shop, half cafe bar in a beautiful old shop. Great coffee, artisan beer and food from early to 22:00hrs. Near the main church. Great staff who were delightful, polite, and informative.

Charming cafe for any hour
Apr 2019 • Solo
I read about this place and couldn't find it on my first attempt with Google Maps (was one street over). Anyways, once I managed, I popped in almost every day, whether for a coffee, a homemade lemonade or to buy a memento from my trip. It's a cafe/shop where you can pick up souvenirs from local artisans, chocolates, spices, liquors and much more. This place turned out to be my favorite spot during my time in Ponta Delgada.

Very French-style Cafe/Boulanger. Serves light fare e.g. pull pork sliders and fries (5E), cauliflower quiche, pastries, wine/tea/coffee. Variety of gift products.

Comfortable interior and sidewalk patio.

Friendly, efficient service.

A Must Visit
Mar 2019 • Couples
Just off the main square Louvre Michaelense provides a lovely spot to have some interesting snacks, lunches and cakes. Most people stop in for a coffee, brunch or cake. They also have a range of craft beers, wine etc. The atmosphere is laid back and the cafe area is also a shop selling nice bits and bobs that you don't really need but want! Overall great vibe and a required visit when exploring Ponta Delgada. So reasonably priced as well which is really refreshing.
